Health officials were notified about a local case of the variant by state health officials on Sunday. A Corpus Christi man between 60 and 70 who had recently visited the United Kingdom because of a family emergency, was diagnosed with B.1.1.7. That strain is a mutant form of the original virus, said Dr. Srikanth Ramachandruni, the local health authority. This is the second case of the variant reported in Texas. The man, who returned from the trip in late December, is in isolation and will remain quarantined until he's cleared by the health authority. One of his symptoms is a severe headache and he's expected to recover, Ramachandruni added.
