NFL rumors: Eagles could add former 2nd-round draft pick to help secondary Updated 3:22 PM; Facebook Share From first-round draft pick DeVonta Smith to undrafted free agents, and select veterans, several players ran around the NovaCare Complex during the Eagles’ rookie minicamp Friday, trying to earn a spot on the roster. One of the players on hand was Obi Melifonwu, a former 2017 second-round draft pick with the Oakland/Las Vegas Raiders. The Eagles invited Melifonwu as one of five players on a tryout, listing him as a cornerback. Sign up for Eagles Extra: Melifonwu is intriguing because he is a big, athletic defensive back (6-feet-3-inches) who is best suited to play in a zone defense. He also adds some versatility because of his experience playing safety. If he is healthy and able to stick around on the roster, he would be an affordable option who could contribute to defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon’s scheme.
