TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The No. 3 Florida State softball team (50-8, 22-2) begins their postseason journey on Friday evening as they will face Marist (29-28) for the first time in program history in the first game of the Tallahassee Regional at 4 p.m. on ESPN+. The second game of the regional will feature South Carolina and UCF at 7 p.m.
The Seminoles will be hosting a regional for the ninth-straight season after putting together their 19th 50+ win season on their way to the ACC Regular Season Championship and the ACC Tournament Championship. The Seminoles are one of the hottest teams in the country as they hold the second-longest active winning streak as they are winners of their last 16. The Seminoles have also won 28 out of their last 30 games.
Florida State NCAA Tournament History
The Seminoles are 100-75 all-time in the NCAA Tournament. This will be the 35th time the Seminoles have qualified for the NCAA Tournament. The Seminoles have qualified for 23 consecutive NCAA Regionals. The Seminoles have hosted nine-straight NCAA Regionals. The Seminoles are looking to qualify for the their 10th NCAA Super Regional. The Seminoles have qualified for the NCAA Super Regional in eight out of the last nine seasons. The Seminoles are 4-0 against UCF in the postseason and 3-1 against South Carolina in the postseason. Friday will be the first ever matchup between Florida State and Marist.
ACC Champions x2
For the 14th time in school history, the Seminoles swept the ACC regular season and tournament championships. The Seminoles went 22-2 in ACC play to win their 14th ACC Regular Season Championship. The Seminoles went on to defeat Syracuse (4-1), Virginia Tech (9-1) and Duke (2-1) to win their 19th ACC Tournament Championship.
The Standard
The Seminoles have been a dominant force in the ACC for a long time. The Seminoles’ 33 ACC Championships (19 tournament, 14 regular season) are the most conference championships among any program in the country. The Seminoles have swept the ACC crown 14 times while no other ACC team has won more than eight total ACC Championships.
The Streak Continues
For the 23rd consecutive season, the Seminoles have made the NCAA Tournament. 20 out of the 22 players on this year’s roster were not born the last time the Seminoles missed the NCAA Tournament.
Eight Noles on All-ACC Teams
The Seminoles led the ACC with eight players on the three All-ACC teams. Kathryn Sandercock and Jahni Kerr were named to the All-ACC First Team. Michaela Edenfield, Devyn Flaherty, Kaley Mudge and Makenna Reid were all named to the All-ACC Second Team. Mack Leonard and Kalei Harding were named to the All-ACC Third Team. Makenna Reid was also named to the ACC All-Freshmen Team.
Sandercock Named ACC Pitcher of the Year
For the first time in her career, Kathryn Sandercock was named the ACC Pitcher of the Year. Sandercock was the first Seminole to win the award since Kylee Hanson in 2018. Sandercock ended ACC play with a perfect 14-0 record an a 1.03 ERA.
Alameda Named ACC Coach of the Year
For the sixth time of her career, Head Coach Lonni Alameda was named the ACC Coach of the Year. This is Alameda’s first ACC Coach of the Year award since 2017. Alameda led the Seminoles to an ACC Regular Season Championship and an ACC Tournament Championship.
Four Noles Named to ACC All-Tournament Team
Kalei Harding, Mack Leonard, Josie Muffley and Kathryn Sandercock were all named to the ACC All-Tournament Team for their performances at the ACC Tournament. Sandercock was named the ACC Tournament MVP.
