View Comments SAN ANGELO — School district officials kicked off a new reading program Wednesday by delivering free books to children across San Angelo, with more deliveries planned throughout the summer. The San Angelo READS! Summer Book Patrol is meant "to inspire a love of reading" with book giveaways and literacy events around town, a spokesperson for San Angelo Independent School District stated in a news release on Tuesday, June 8, 2021. “At San Angelo ISD, we encourage our students and families to keep reading over the summer break,” said Whitney Wood, SAISD Executive Director of Communications. Wood stated reading was vitally important in helping San Angelo's children reach their full potential, and so the district created a Summer Book Patrol program as part of other community efforts to foster a love of literacy.
