(Google image) TACLOBAN CITY - A regular member of the New People's Army (NPA) has voluntarily surrendered to the police in the town of Silvino Lubos, Northern Samar on Sunday. The Philippine National Police Regional Mobile Force Battalion (RMFB) 803rd Maneuver Company (MC) identified the surrenderer as alias "Bryan", 24, and a resident of Roxas village in Lope De Vega, Northern Samar. He was a sub-regional committee member of NPA's Eastern Visayas regional party committee operating in Northern Samar. "Through intensified monitoring against the NPA and distribution of campaign materials, the said surrenderer was able to obtain the hotline number. He called up on June 11 informing the unit about his willingness to surrender," said Capt. Leslie Lalic, intelligence officer of 803rd MC. He finally decided to withdraw support to his former organization and voluntarily appeared before the 803rd MC on Sunday. Lalic said alias "Bryan" is now under the custody of 803rd MC. Authorities are now trying to find out if he is qualified to avail the Enhanced Comprehensive Local and Integration Program and the Local and Social Integration Program of Northern Samar provincial government. Silvino Lubos town is one of NPA's strongholds in Samar Island considering its poor road network, thick forest, and high poverty incidence making the town vulnerable to NPA recruitment, according to the military. The Communist Party of the Philippines- NPA, which has been waging a five-decade armed struggle against the government, is listed as a terrorist organization by the United States, the European Union, the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the Philippines. The Anti-Terrorism Council also formally designated the National Democratic Front as a terrorist organization on June 23, 2021, citing it as "an integral and inseparable part" of the CPP-NPA that was created in April 1973.
