On this day in history: Vermont lands its (temporary) stripe on the US flag

On this day more than 200 years ago, Vermont made its temporary mark on the U.S. flag in the form of a newly-minted stripe.
The Green Mountain State, along with Kentucky, secured its spot on the flag after George Washington approved an act on Jan. 13, 1794 in support of a new stripe and star for each state's addition to the Union. The change was fleeting.
