In April, President Joe Biden described our country’s gun violence epidemic as “an international embarrassment” while pledging to address this crisis. President Biden was correct and his actions have been swift — but here in California, our elected officials have long been leading the nation in enacting common-sense and comprehensive solutions that save lives, despite ongoing attacks from the gun lobby and gun industry. Lawsuits like the one that recently sought to overturn California’s decades-long ban on assault style firearms or the one seeking to overturn our common-sense requirement that ammunition purchases be subject to a background check threaten this progress and public safety.
