Getty/Handout The 93rd Academy Awards will retain as much of the ceremony’s traditional glitz as is possible during a pandemic. How are the Oscars even happening? With the US still firmly in the grips of the Covid-19 pandemic, this year’s Emmy and Golden Globes ceremonies were socially distanced and virtual, with mixed-to-lacklustre results. READ MORE: The 2021 ceremony, which is taking place two months later than usual, will be held primarily as an open-air event at Los Angeles’ historic Union Station, with some segments to take place at the Academy Awards’ traditional home, the Dolby Theatre. Like a revolving door policy, 170 attendees will be permitted in the station at any one time, and they will be rotated in and out during commercial breaks; nominees have been advised that zooming in to accept awards is not an option.
