‘Boys club culture’ has got to go | Jersey Journal editorial

“I took the job of business administrator because I have a skill set I knew would be an asset to City Hall and the residents of Bayonne. At no point did I understand the environment I was stepping into, or that boys club culture was so strong.”
Those are the words of Bayonne Business Administrator Melissa Mathews, who filed a blistering discrimination lawsuit against the city and individual officials last week.
Heralded just last year as the first woman to hold the powerful post in the Peninsula City, she now alleges an emotionally distressful work environment with screaming superiors, attempted intimidation and complaints that fall on deaf ears.
