National Guard protect monuments and buildings.The National Guard members will also be there for Joe Biden's presidential inauguration. "Really a mission that means a lot to me because we're taking care of Americans. We're taking care of citizens, which is a good thing," said 1st Sgt. Joseph Kern, of the New Jersey Army National Guard.Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan ordered 500 of his state's National Guard members to be in Washington, D.C., through the end of January.
