With global warming putting a strain on resources, the need for developing Arctic shipping routes has increased. However, ice-breaking ships need to function more efficiently. One way to better their design is by improving upon the current algorithms used to study ice resistance, a critical factor for efficient ice breaking. Scientists have now developed a numerical model capable of predicting the ice resistance encountered by icebreakers.
