R Street Institute Applauds Formation of January 6 Commission WASHINGTON (May 14, 2021)—The R Street Institute applauds the news [1] that the House of Representatives will form a Commission to investigate the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol. Jonathan Bydlak, Director of R Street’s Governance Program, asserts, “Regardless of one’s political or ideological views, today’s announcement is a bold leadership stand by Chairman Bennie Thompson and Ranking Member John Katko. January 6, 2021 is a stain on our nation’s history. It is critical that our duly elected representatives investigate the tragic events of that day.” Bydlak adds, “As R Street and many of our allies in civil society have argued, it’s essential that this investigative effort be bipartisan—and indeed, nonpartisan—with an eye toward truth. The entire Homeland Security Committee should be applauded for their willingness to come together to do just that.”
