The scene from the movie “Titanic” where the ship is sinking is an interesting metaphor for our COVID vaccine response. As the ship sinks, a lone violinist, sensing the inevitable, begins playing “Nearer My God to Thee” as passengers ignore him and frantically elbow each other for a seat on one of the few lifeboats available. The violinist is joined by three fellow musicians as a desperate passenger literally rips a life preserver off of a woman lying on deck. It’s every man and woman for themselves.
