Table Hopping By Steve Barnes, senior writer on May 12, 2021 at 10:55 AM Sogo Asian Fusion opened Saturday (5/8) at 1186 Troy-Schenectady Road/Route 7 in Latham. It takes over a space in a commercial plaza previously occupied by Pebbles Asian Fusion, which opened in January 2018. I’m unclear when Pebbles closed; its Sogo has a large menu of familiar Chinese and Thai dishes, along with sushi and cooked Japanese fare. Sogo serves lunch and dinner starting at 11 a.m, Tuesday to Sunday, closed Monday. Call 518-867-8888 or I’m awaiting a reply from Pebbles’ owners, Jessica and Kevin Hsu, a friendly couple with an interesting story who developed a cult following for Pebbles’ secret menu, printed in Chinese only and featuring a small selection of authentic dishes and preparations from Kevin’s native Taiwan. It proved extremely popular with food-savvy customers; its most popular dish was pork kidney. I’m sure the Hsus’ return to the local restaurant scene would be welcome, but the commute from Vermont, where they live because Jessica is a teacher, may have become too much, especially during the pandemic.
