Some cold weather shelters in the ArkLaTex open as extreme winter weather continues (Source: kauz) By Chandler Watkins | February 16, 2021 at 3:50 PM CST - Updated February 18 at 7:42 AM (KSLA) - With frigid temperatures expected for the next few days, several shelters in the ArkLaTex still have available beds for those looking to get out of the cold. Northwest Louisiana In Shreveport, the Salvation Army at 200 E Stoner Ave. has a few more beds available. They can be reached at 318-424-3200. Two organizations have teamed up to provide shelter, food, and clothing. Friends in Unity of Louisiana and Loving Little Ones have set up shelter at Little Union Baptist Church (1846 Milam St.). The emergency shelter can house up to 30 people safely with COVID-19 restrictions in place. As of Wednesday night (Feb. 17), five people were staying at the shelter. That number is expected to increase as people deal with power and water outages. The shelter is providing breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It’s also providing sleeping bags, cots, and blankets. Face masks are being provided as well. The shelter will stay open as long as there is inclement weather.
