Stannard Rock Lighthouse: A rare glimpse inside 'the lonelie

Stannard Rock Lighthouse was completed in 1883.
It is 39 kilometres from land, a desolate beacon guarding against an underwater mountain in a US lake, a place so unremittingly grim that it has been dubbed “the loneliest place in the world” ... welcome to the Stannard Rock Lighthouse.
The 30-metre-high structure in Lake Superior, Michigan is the most distant lighthouse from shore in the US and one of the most remote in the world.

Earlier this month the US Coast Guard had to make an emergency visit after rough weather had blown out one of the windows, posing a risk to the lighthouse’s light.
