Jeanelle Austin brought together a group of caretakers who maintain George Floyd Square near the spot where Floyd was killed. Art, protest signs, candles, books, and more are collected inside the Chicago Avenue Fire Arts Center. The group preserves these items in what is now known as the George Floyd Global Memorial.
Like a lot of us, Alfonzo “Box” Williams, 44, saw the footage—the last moments of George Floyd’s life, at 38th Street and Chicago Avenue—online, the day after Floyd died.
