Nobody knows where it came from and nobody knows where it went.
A Buddha statue that sat in lotus position for more than 20 years on a small pond's edge along San Francisco's Macondray Lane, perhaps the prettiest garden byway in the city, disappeared last month.
Billie Carn, who has lived on the cobblestone lane for two years, was devastated when she first noticed it was gone April 27. Carn played detective, talking to neighbors, posting fliers and filing a police report — all in hopes of finding the Buddha.
