The Gainesville Sun Say ‘no’ to permit The Feb. 23 meeting of the Suwannee River Water Management District Board anticipates addressing the pending request of Seven Springs/Nestle to draw down an additional 980,000-plus gallons of water per day from our Floridan Aquifer. The permit applicants just pay a nominal one-time fee for the permit and nothing per gallon of water after that fee. We cannot afford to give away our water to a corporation that will ship our water out of state and globally. Is this permit withdrawing water in the public interest? As Florida natives we have seen and experienced the steady decline of our aquifer. We need to be vigilant about protecting our water resources from further decline. Our future depends on what we do now! It is time to respectfully say "no" to the permit request.
