Three there you have it. Thanks to the efforts of a few brave House Republican moms we get we all get to now celebrate the march of dumb. Government shutdown lets hear it from an actual congressman as to why we had to shut the federal government down. We just want to help the American People get by and through what this insidious law is, and that is obamacare. Jon bravo. New orleannot just one of the mt insidious laws by america, which has jim crow, but putting obamacare up with the nuremberg laws, the spanish inquisition and the medieval on your wedding night, gets to sleep with your wife. Hey he may be banging my bride but at least he is not forcing me into a healthcare exchange. I dont want the government standing between me and the guy that applies my leeches. I dont know why the peasant has an accent like that but it should probably not be from jersey. Anyway, the House Republicans have made the incredibly unpopular move of forcing a shutdown of the United States government, to save us all from having to there is only one thing left to do. To the damage control station man the store, man. I wonder if it is going to be like the sequester where before the sequester we heard essentially the sky is going to fall and you are going to feel the pain immediately. Not so much. The worst thing that happened is some museums closed and someone cant go to the statue of liberty. We were warned the sky was going to fall but the sun came up, didnt it . No one told you the sky was going to fall. No one told you the Government Shutdown had the same effect as an asteroid hitting the planet. The Government Shutdown did affect the program tha that woud tell us that is happening. No biggy. When the president came out yesterday and went through a list of what wasnt going to change he said we will have air traffic controllers, medicare, go to the doctor, i was sitting there, wait a minute, he is making the case for the republicans, it is pretty good. Maybe i am one of the few people that this doesnt impact me mentally. We have had 17 Government Shutdowns, governor, i am not afraid of a couple of weeks of government shut down. Jon and there is sean than ty. Not like they shut down it for a private event. The strategic flag graphic reserves. Implement add no grunting policy in the mens room. So it turns out that there is a whole bunch of government functions that have ended, the casual observ observer may not immediately feel physically but nevertheless may have an effect. Nasa, the epa and the department of commerce would essentially stop funding with the vast majority of their employees forced to stay home. 68 percent of the center for Disease Control is, quote, furloughed. The food and Drug Administration will not be able to support the majority of its safety, cosmetic activities. Jon really . We may not be reviewing the products. How weird, i am just introducing one super safe product. To the marketplace. Hello, friends. Are you tired of thinking with your penis . And then having your penis make terrible decisions . Well, suffer no more, people, with new brain coctin, brain toctin is not at all dangerous or mysterious blend of household cleaning supplies and varnish, natural blend of herbs that Work Together to grow your peniss brain, thats right, you heard me, soon your little head will have the big iq. Hey, guy when you are done urinating can you help me with my calculus homework . Thanks, brain captain . The side effects i am, i am not required to tell you about the side effects. Finally, your cock can pay attention. And am b ien, the only sleeping pill that is clearly not all right. Nothing interesting. Just for the internet, me opening a bottle of brain toctin and going like this. All right. Enjoy that , buzz feed so, a couple of Government Agencies are closed. Is this shutdown really going to hurt anyone . The shutdown will also suspend the special Supplemental Nutrition Program for women, infants and children. Jon la, la, la, la, la. See . Nobody. It is like taking candy from a baby. Except instead of candy it is food. And the republicans, that all adds up to a, i dont know, i am just not feeling it. One sound bite that expresses this world view it is this one right here. Do you believe the democrats it is time to go and buy some tank and get in the survival bunker. After buying some tang. Jon ha, ha, ha, ha. bleep you because, first of all, first of all [ cheers and applause ] jon first of all, democrats arent the only ones with survival bunkers. That is you guys. And second i know for you potted meat and tang is shorthand for bleep you wouldnt imagine eating unless there was a catastrophe but the people affected by the Government Shutdown it is the bleep they eat that they can no longer afford. Of course i dont mean to suggest that the republicans dont get upset by the effects of reduced government services. We remember what they were screaming about six months ago. The controversy over the administrations decision to cancel public tours of the white house, you have all the kids screaming and moaning they cant go to the white house tours now. He is playing a political game saying i am closing the white house, he is punishing those kids. He is even scaring little kids. How low can you go . My grandson robert who you know, he had his class, went to the white house tour about three weeks ago, they loved it, but the president , what the president is doing is an absurdity. The politicians including the president didnt do their job and the children get punished by the white house. What is wrong with this picture . Jon everything hey, your kid didnt get breakfast, thats your problem. My kid didnt get to tour the white house . That is everybodys problwwwwwwwwwwwwwww jon we are back. Obamacare, obamacare insurance marketplace is open across the country today because, that caused a lot of confusion. Jason jones reports. After years of arguing a president ial election, a Supreme Court ruling, 41 attempts at a congressional repeal and now a Government Shutdown, the healthcare debate comes down to two sides, the substance of obamacare supporters like anne phillip and the staunch conservatives like gina road den. We are offering quality Affordable Health korchls fork millions of americans across the country. Obamacare is a ponzi scheme. There are over 41 Million People who stand to benefit this fall with the new Health Insurance ooptions that are coming. Obamacare, is bad for america. Obamacare is more like obama doesnt care. This is all just coming down to phrases. Republicans can explain it to you, we just cant understand it for you. Well that is very condescending. With only three months until the law kicks in all that matters now is who has the clearer message. Starting october 1st, the Health Insurance marketplaces are going to launch. They are going to require the essentials, you cant be denied because of a preexisting condition like asthma or even cancer, and Financial Health is, help is going to be available. They are offering millions of people Affordable Healthcare. I am trying to figure out what you are offering. Oh, we have a free market. The private system has worked really well for a long time. Doing this interview, i ironically nod and agree with whatever the person is saying usually, but, let me try, let me try and get in character. Oh. You think the existing program is working just fine . Yes. A nonfree market option will answer. I mean, unless you want your annual breast exam to take place with the tsa. No. I cant do it. I cant stay in character. Im sorry. Im sorry. bleep . Who is right . And who is wrong . The only way to settle this major policy debate is. Like we always do. With commercials. We are all kind of people. We are new yorkers. Everyone deserves Affordable Health insurance. To find out how you or your business can get it go to new york state of health. Is that pro healthcare or antihealthcare . It is it is for new yorkers . Yes. You dont suggest healthcare in new york . You tell them. And this is how. bleep insurance, new york. We have botulism, he bola, three types of hepatitis and that is just well done and bleep because if you dont, i will come after you and grab your little bleep head and beat bleep . That is the short version. He goes on like that. Add not to be outdone the antiobama, a have their own ads. It is a little bit different. Take a look. Ahh effective i am assuming it is a metaphor. Well, sure. Because he is not actually i think metaphorically, obamacare is going to do some really ugly things. When you have got government in your exam room, i have a problem with that. It is not the place of government. This is a private affair, obviously. It is a private affair. Just throwing this out here. Are you prochoice . Am i it depends on what issue you are talking about. I think the government should uphold the constitution which uphold it is righttolife. I get it. So stay the hell away from my vagina unless we want to do certain things with it then get all up in my vagina . This is so confusing. There is one message for the healthy and one for the young and one for the old. So i made my own commercial. Hello, i am johnny knoxville, and if someone understands how young people behave, i know right now you feel bleep i feel like everyone should be covered. Absolutely. Because you never know when something unexpected then again, you are young. What is the worst that can happen . Oh, no responsible adults dont have to pay when stupid oh bleep [ applause ] nananana a jon tonight my guest tonight, best selling author, his books, he translated and wrote the introduction for, it is called the reason i jump. The ininer voice of a 13yearold boy with autism by noki, hiroshita, please welcome to the show david mitchell. [ applause ] jon thank you so much for being here. It is a pleasure. Jon as much as i love your books and i do love your books thank you. Jon this, the reason i jump is one of the most remarkable books i think i have ever read. It is truly moving, eye opening, incredibly vivid, how did you become involved in this . Well, briefly, my wife and i he happens to be from japan and some years ago, three or four years ago, she was looking through a wellknown online retailer, and she found a reference to this. So we had the diagnosis of autism for our son but we didnt, still didnt know much about it. So she ordered the book, read it, sorted reading sections of it for me, in the end she was reading the whole book, and i really, it really sort of altered how we viewed our own sons autism and relate with him and what his potential could be. We started to do the underground translation for the people who looked after our son and then my agent got to hear about this and here we are. The complexity of this young boys understanding of his process explodes so many myths about people with autism. Yes, we feel so of course, as you know, i do some translation work for autism yourself, you are aware of how many presentations of autism there are, and it makes more sense to talk about autism, but now, he just has he is a lucky genetic that his autism, while he couldnt have this conversation for example, he would be too autistic for that, he is able to type, and because of that, you can see what mental eloquence can exist behind this wall of speechlessness which is a pretty common manifestation of many people with autism. And that is the view, i think there is a tendency you can view a child or a grownup with this as broken. They are broken. Yes. Jon and yet when you see their life and their inner life is as complex as nuanced, it struck me, i spent the summer in jordan and everyone spoke arabic but me and it was very isolating and i couldnt speak the language, and obviously i was able to communicate well enough to get what i knowed and they understood where i was coming from, but i was really struck by the idea that people that have autism or the syndrome are not dont want to be isolated, their condition isolates them. Yes. I think often symptoms and cause can get mixed, it is a mysterious condition. Essentially, we only understand autism when we understand the brain, and we are about two or three einsteins away from that, however, it is not that they are broken, it is their means of communicating, what is going on in their mind, and with luck, with help you can work on that, and how to access them. Jon what was the most heartbreaking parts to read are the parts where this child is very aware of the stress that the condition is causing on his caregivers and on his parents and the people, and his low selfworth based on not being able to control these things, that he knows you want him to control. Yes. And when we were translating that, i just wanted to tell him you have enough to worry about with your autism, dont worry about me. Dont worry about us. But he does, and thats one more thing that people with autism, are supposed to be able to do. I mean, for a lot of people, on that is almost the defining asset of autism, that they are incapable of empathizing and incapable of understanding how other people might be feeling. But he certainly can, and many, many people with autism are more able to empathize than we give them credit for. Jon almost the antithesis, it is so raw for him that he almost cant bear to disappoint in that regard. Yes. Yes. To what degree this autism, to what degree a 13yearold japanese kid who doesnt want to let people down for reasons, it is mysterious and how autism begins and personality starts. It is a very hazy area, but the book was so helpful for me in relating to my son, and it is not that unusual. Many people who jon it is the most illuminating book i think i have ever read on the syndrome and on and on the individual and it allows you to see someone with the syndrome as an individual, and that it is not a syndrome. It completely ruins the vocabulary. Jon will you hang around for a late bit. I dont normally urge you the reason, it is on the bookshelves now, please if you have a chance, pick it up, it is remarkable. David mitchell. We will be right bac jon thats our show. Join us tomorrow night. Here is your moment of zen. It is a very limited Economic Impact from this shutdown. Right. I dont know how many millions of dollars a day it is costing but it is not that big of a deal.
