Nashville, tennessee, where the president will speak in just a couple of hours to a farmers group, take it away, kevin. Listen, harris. Very interesting to read what steve bannon has to say and yet there has still been no official response from the white house although i think its fair to say, there may have been less of an apology than a clarification of what he had to say. Let me share a part of that statement. As you just said, i want to bring the people at home on board on this so they can see what he was talking about. He said he didnt mean for his comments to sound like he was calling the president s son its treasonous, but rather he said my comments were aimed at paul manafort, a seasoned campaign professional with experience and knowledge of how the russians operate. He went on to say he should have known they are duplicitous, cunning, and not our friends. To reiterate, those comments were not aimed at don jr. The comments through a very sharp rhetorical from the president who dubbed his former chief strategist sloppy steve. Another white house official thinks the book is full of inaccuracies. Its obviously i talked to the guy for about half an hour, i think he put two sentences about me in the book, both of which were inaccurate. As you can well imagine, the white house really wants to pivot away from the story and they are hoping that todays speech in nashville which is an important policy speech will help them do just that. We will have coverage for you later in the day but for now back to you. Harris i am about to learn more about this from the white house. Rod shaw is on the white house lawn to join us, good to see you today. I want to start with the book and then we will talk about the trip to tennessee. A big question is how did this author gain such access to the president of the United States . He didnt have a great deal of access to the president of the United States, he only spoke to him one time since he has become president , one phone call in february of last year. Hes never spoken to him in person since he became president and he frankly has been misrepresenting his level of access, his level of cooperation with white house officials. One individual who shepherded in through some of the stuff which is steve bannon, the president has made his views very clear about what we think of steve bannon, is conduct which hasnt changed of late, and Steve Bannons comments in the book were inappropriate. Frankly, this book would not exist without Steve Bannons cooperation. We think it is highly inappropriate and frankly, the president said it, the man has lost his mind and good riddance. Harris we havent heard the president come back since steve bannon made we will not call it an apology because he doesnt say hes sorry but what do you hear him say . The president s comments were pretty clear last week and theres really nothing further to say. This book has little to no credibility, its a total fabrication. You just saw Mick Mulvaneys comments from earlier today pushing back against comments in his interview in the book. There are so many inaccuracies, this is nothing we see from the president of the United States who has a tremendous first year in office, led an amazing team. Weve had tremendous success is on domestic front with the economy which is booming today, with the passage of tax cuts and reform and with the things overseas with the crushing of isis. Weve had so many tremendous successes with the president leading the spectacular team and we really think this book is just tabloid trash and doesnt represent anything thats going on in the building behind me. Harris last question about the book, any concern about possible notes this author may come out with . We have no concerns at all about anything, it has no credibility, i have set up before and i will say it again. We will welcome any think you have to introduce because we dont think it adds up to much. Harris lets talk a little bit about camp david and some things that were talked about this weekend. I want to get your take on what the American People need to know that came out of this weekend in terms of camp david and also the conversation on daca. Lets talk about the takeaways from this weekend. The president met with leadership at camp david, i think they got on the same page with a bunch of things they want to begin to talk about for the 2018 agenda. One thing we want to talk about is the fact that we had a very successful 2017. 2017 began with the president taking action on a whole host of friends that began with the regulation of our economy and rolling back eight years of overregulation under the last administration. Weve had tremendous growth in our economy, over 2 million jobs created, record after records at the stock market and he closed the year with the passage of tax cuts and reform which is going to be a huge boon for next year or rather 42018 and which weve seen already dozens of businesses expand jobs, give bonuses to employees, expanding 401 k programs. We are very optimistic about how 2018 is going to look based on what we saw in 2017. Harris i hear your optimism, there is a new deadline looming to keep the government running. You need democrats on that, hows it going . We are going to be working with democrats. We are hoping democrats agree with us that a budget deadline is not the time to be passing other pieces of legislation, immigration or other issues. We want to clean funding bill that supports our National Security priorities. Right now we have a dangerous world, its very important that our military and our Intelligence Community and National Security, our veterans have the support they need. What we are asking for is a twoyear funding window that gives us certainty. We want to work with democrats on that on that. Harris my understanding, that you dont see a way forward to keep daca in the conversation before we reach that deadline, the Government Shutdown next friday . We want to have a conversation on responsible Immigration Reform that is separate from government fundin funding. Harris democrats have said they are not going to do that, what are you going to do . We will continue that conversation with them but our view is that on the issue of immigration, the present has laid out pretty clear priorities and these are very different from what democrats supported a few years ago. In 2013 every democrat in the senate including Chuck Schumer and dick durbin voted for Immigration Reform that provided billions in Border Security funding, nearly 40 billion provided 40,000 new Border Patrol agents, and provided funding for a border wall. These are all parts of the president s priorities we would like to see. Harris before i let you walk away now you got me again, all right. The president is going to tennessee today and i assume he is going to talk about that Small Business passed through legislation they were able to shore up with tax cuts. Talking about his speech and what you are looking forward to with him on the ground in nashville . This administration has a big agenda for Rural Communities across the country. There is agriculture policy, broadband policy and as you mentioned the tax cut bill that cut the estate tax and insure that family farms can be passed on from generation to generatio generation, expands the child tax credit, allows businesses to invest in tractors and other equipment. To expense the capital investment. There is a tremendous amount in the tax bill, the administration is doing on other fronts, exporting Agricultural Products overseas to places like argentina, we have a tremendous agenda thats going to be huge for Rural Communities and the president is going to be discussing it at length today. Harris another president s example for end of the year was that farmers are having to lower the prices of their properties that they are trying to sell to stay under that cap so they could pass things along to their kids. Great to see you today, we will bring you back on the white house lawn. Thank you very much. For more on the books fall out, lets bring in cheap political anchor and anchor of special report, bret baier. There are a couple things i learned, first of all there was that one february call he says with the author of that book, what did you hear . I think the white house is pushing back hard on the access that wolff as he was granted. I think Steve Bannons apology is interesting in that he doesnt deny saying the words he is quoted as saying. He says he regrets saying it but if you look at the quote specifically, there are some doozies in there about various people including the president. I think it may be an uphill climb for steve bannon to get back into his graces. Harris the namecalling he enjoyed when he was talking with Michael Wolff about the president s children. Specifically don jr. s wife. And evocative trump, dam is a brick. That is tough to get back from. He has had some pretty interesting things about the president on twitter, maybe there is a phoenix from the ashes for our relationship. Harris its interesting to put it that way because this is a president who often sits down with the people who dont necessarily love him. Weve seen him do that time and time again, perhaps thats the dealmaker in him, i dont know. We know what his apology really sounds like, is that what he put out there . I think this is more of a cover his butt kind of thing. He is looking at a lot of influence that is lost. He had the millionaire funders behind him saying they arent anymore and i think this disconnect with the president , he is on the losing side of it. Harris this allows the president to begin a conversation that he seems to always win with and that is fake news. All of us are going to cover this book, its been new since he got into the game last thursday or friday as it were and he put out lost her mind language about steve bannon. What you think of that . I think we have a caveat here, while there are problems with various parts of the book and facts and people are challenging the quotes they gave michael wolf or thought they were giving him or that he said were off the record and they are on the record, the caveat is there is some nugget of truth for some stories in this book. You have to balance what is true and what isnt true. The point is it is now murky end of the white house is attacking it full throttle. Harris hold on for breaking news as we see President Trump walking up the steps to Board Air Force ones. We just saw him arrive by motorcade on the tarmac. Now hes getting on Board Air Force one. He is headed as we have been telling you to nashville, tennessee, and he will address the Farm Bureau Federations 99th annual convention. Now you are going to see a shift in conversation. This isnt just any conversation, this is the one the American People say they care about, the economy. Hes going to talk about rural households and what hes done for farmers and families in Rural Communities. Thats a big selling point for people who voted for donald trump, he signed an executive order, signing one about trying to get Broadband Internet to places that dont have it in Rural America and talking about lifting people up based on what is already past. I should put the other caveat here, some of the tensions on all of this book into the oxygen that has been spent obviously is because there is a cease and desist order issued by the president and his lawyers. The author is essentially saying thank you for that. Harris he brought it forth four days early and now hes trying to publish more books, they need more copies. The American People in the midwest will be watching this. Nashville, tennessee, we are told in about three hours he will take the microphone if you will at that Convention Center in nashville. We will talk about the economy. Some other things that will no doubt come up, the talks at camp david this past weekend. Talk about a shift in topic since friday, the last words from the president via a tweet against this book and steve bannon. I think you will hear a lot about the wall and a promise that the wall is going to be built and that plays well in Southern States in the midwest. Dont forget hell be going to the National Championship game. We dont know what role he is going to play but thats alabama versus georgia. Harris who do you call in the game . Im from georgia, ive got to go with the dogs. Harris i didnt know you were from georgia, too. The president has boarded air force one, hes headed to nashville, tennessee. He will be talking Small Business, the economy, he will address the Farm Bureau Federations convention as they await him. We will see you tonight at 6 00 p. M. Eastern as i always do for special report. One of the most influential republicans on capitol hill is wrapping up his call for an investigation. The author of that antitrump dossier, why he says we need a Second Special counsel for that. And roughly 24 hours from now, north and south korea sitting down for their first talk into coyears. Whats behind the move . The director of the cia says north korea is finally feeling the heat. You see the north koreans doing what they have historically done. Trying to come up for air when they are being strangled by a president who has made very clear that this behavior is unacceptable. Iss the mayhem . Does waiting around trying to protect your house from a lighting strike give me the same rush as being golfballsized hail . Of course not. But if you can stick to your new years resolution, then i can stick to mine and be the best road flare i can. What . You couldnt even last two weeks . In that case, consider mayhem officially back. So get allstate. And be better protected in 2018 from mayhem. Like me. Every truck guy has their own way of conveying powerful. Yeeaaahhh boy. Kind of looks like a monster coming to eat ya. Are you willing to engage in talks with kim jong un right now . Absolutely i would do it. No prerequisites to coming to the table and talking with him . Look, its a start. Its a big start. If i werent involved they wouldnt be talking about olympics right now, they would be doing no talking. Harris that was President Trump talking about his part in the potential warming of relations between north and south korea. They are going to hold talks tomorrow for the first time in two years. You also heard the president say he is open to speaking to kim jong un. Mike pompeo doubts anything is going to change right now. Past history would indicate that this is not likely to lead to any true change in his outlook. He will continue to want to make things with Nuclear Capability and that the president said is unacceptable. Harris republican congressman and candidate for Florida Governor ron desantis. Your title gets longer, congratulations on that. Theres more news in the sense that we are closer to the deadline for these talks to actually happen. How do you think they will go about . What is that conversation going to look like . I think mike pompeo has a pretty good read on it. There may be some small positives regarding the olympics but its probably not going to advent in any major changes in kim jong uns strategic outlook. This is a guy who wants to hold onto power, he is running a country that is effectively a prison and that Nuclear Arsenal is really the thing thats keeping them there and thats my calculation he has made such he met thus far. Harris a lot of the president s critics say he cant take credit for this. It has been a year now, how much credit do you give the president for getting us to the point where the north end of the south have reactivated the hotline and are talking for the first time in two years . I think he does deserve credit, hes the first president in a while to take this problem seriously. Obama basically just let it fester, there wasnt anything before that. Clinton had a deal that was basically a paper tiger and it was a failure. I give the president credit for engaging on it, i think kim jong un is worried about the president. Harris he think he pays attention to it in are president and his tweets . I think this president has shown he is willing to follow through with his words. We saw it recently with the recognition of jerusalem which everyone said you cant do that, the middle east will go on fire. He said i am going to do it and guess what, the middle east is not on fire. I think its somebody who youve got to look at this president and say this may not be somebody i want to mess with. Harris you see democrat critics and others say this president shouldnt tweet the way he does, that effectively didnt happen. We cant see the future but now they are talking. What do you say about that . With the nuclear situation, obviously the goal is to avoid that but one of the ways we avoid it is to maintain and demonstrate our superiority so he knows. I dont know how fully rational he is but i think he knows if you were to try something it would result in the end of his country. I think that is probably effective against him. It may not be quite as effective on him transferring some of those weapons to other countries. We talked earlier about the Iranian Regime, they woul
