And crews have faced many challenges just finding the car, and were going to pan over and on the right top corner of your screen, you can see the car now revealed a of the water receded somewhat. But they face many challenges finding the car mainly due to the creek being so swollen with fast moving water from a recent rain. The drivers family is expected to be out there with the search teams this morning. Officials say they could be helpful to searchers. We will continue to monitor the search. A uber driver on the way to pick someone up hit a pedestrian in san jose. Matt keller joins us live at the scene on tully road. Hi, matt. Reporter this investigation took about four hours to complete. Police believe the pedestrian started on this side of the road, but he didnt make it all the way across. Police, firefighters, and paramedics rushed to tully road just before 3 45 this morning. This uber driver, on his way to pick up a passenger in his toyota prius, hid a pedestrian. The driver indicated he was traveling west pound and the pedestrian stepped out in front of him. Reporter the driver stayed at the scene and talked with police. The cars windshield was shattered. The pedestrian, believed to be in his 60s, was taken to the hospital with life threatening injuries. An uber spokesperson confirms a driver was involved. Police are trying to figure out if there was anything the driver could have done to avoid the pedestrian. San jose police do not have an update on the pedestrians condition. So far in san jose this year, there have been two pedestrian fatalities. Matt, thank you. In the east bay, police are investigating the mysterious cause of death of two people and their pets inside of a berkeley apartment. The two people and their cats were found dead inside the apartment on deacon street near webster yesterday. Police say there are no obvious signs of trauma and that Carbon Monoxide poisoning does not appear to be the cause. A neighbor says a man and woman in their 30s live in that unit. The victims identities have not been released. Recent storms have left bay area roads full of potholes. Theyve caused damage to cars, like one that happened on west bound 580. But the potholes have been a boone for businesses. Amy is live along 580 to show us. Amy . Reporter hi, kristen. This is one of the worst offenders, interstate 580. Potholes on this freeway are keeping local service jobs very busy, and this morning, it really slowed things down. The morning commute on west bound 580 this morning was brought to a stand still as caltrans crews shut down two lanes to fill potholes. It added an extra hour to my commute today. Reporter but you could argue hitting the potholes is worse than being delayed. This tire grave ward in livermore tells you all you need to know about the season we have had. A lot more blowouts and dent rims because of all the potholes and stuff. Reporter heres a closeup look at what your tires go through when they hit rough patches in the road. Its not just flat tires, this causes rim and alignment problems and grumpy drivers. Theyre really mad because they keep getting so many blowouts. Ive had 15 customers in the last two weeks come in with bent rims, so they had to buy brand new rims. So yeah, theyve been kind of mad about that. Reporter customers complain about this pass, which is due to be repaved soon. It takes quite a beating because of the truck traffic. This is the major east and west thoroughfare. Add the rain, the weak road just caves. This has been one of the worst seasons for potholes and other roadway damage than weve seen in a long time. We havent seen this much rain this quickly. Reporter caltrans worked on the potholes from noon yesterday to 6 00 this morning. One was so bad, they say they could see the rebar in the road. Right now, theyre just running ragged from one patch job to another. Hats off to them. Amy, thank you. If your evening commute takes you along highway 13 in oakland, caltrans says it hopes to have steve, the same of this huge sinkhole, fixed by the time you get off work. Crews are racing to fill it. She says that the couple carries a really heavyweight on their shoulders for the fire that killed 36 people. She also blamed the media of what is happening to her family. Yesterday, lawyers claimed that the fire started from bad wiring in a building next door. They didnt say where they got that information from. Oakland fire is working to determine the cause and the d. A. s office is investigating possible criminal charges. The Oakland Public Safety Committee will discuss whether to allow the Police Department to intercept public cell phone use. Police would use devices that act as a real cell phone tower to identify phones and capture its content. Today marks the first full day on the job for San Franciscos new police chief. Mayor ed lee swore chief scott in, inside the city hall yesterday. Chief scott comes to San Francisco after spending 27 years in the los angeles Police Department where he rose to the rank of deputy chief. Hes just the third outside tore serve as chief in San Francisco. He plans to join his officers on patrol to learn more about the sfpd. Governor jerry brown is delivering his state of the state this morning, saying california is not turning back. The governor is promising a forceful defense of californias efforts on Climate Change and health care, after President Trump signed an executive order to repeal and replace the Affordable Care act. His remarks come a day after he declared a state of emergency for 50 california counties, including all nine counties here in the bay area. The state has been hit hard by flooding and damage from recent storms.
