Sick, and we were tasked to go down there. Reporter team leader Tech Sergeant justin shook has successfully completed hundreds of recovery missions. My job is to help people that cant help themselves. Reporter members of his team are off the coast of mexico right now to save a baby girl. He says its a mission thats just as important. The main issue especially with children is they do really well for a long time and they crash. And thats what were worried about. Reporter take a look. This is dramatic new video. Four members of the 129th rescue wing parachuting into the pacific ocean. One jumping right after the other. The mission of their multistage operation is clear but not simple. Bring a 1yearold girl who became seriously ill on a sailboat to shore for treatment. We train hard to have these capabilities, and we want to go and help. Because people dont mean to get in bad situations. Reporter the team boarded the sailboat and stabilized the little girl, but the rebel heart, seen here in video from the familys website, became disabled. So tonight the kaufmans and the rescue team wait for a navy ship to arrive from san diego. The vessel will pick them up and bring them closer to shore so the 129th helicopter can reach them and fly lira to a hospital. A complicated and Dangerous Mission in practically the middle of nowhere. The Kaufman Family along with their 3ye sick d their sick 1yearold were only two weeks into a journey into the south pacific. Their journey has now taken an unexpected turn. At Moffett Air Field nick smith, abc 7 news. Nick, thank you for that update. New at 11 00, the Highway Patrol is investigating a freeway shooting that injured two people in the east bay tonight. The victims drove themselves here to Doctors Medical center in san pablo. The chp says the men were shot along the eastbound 580 between regatta way and 23rd avenue in richmond around 8 30. Officers called the doctors after the victims showed up there. When we arrived on scene, we found the victims vehicle and the two victims were in an emergency room. No one has been arrested in connection with the shooting. The chp is still trying to figure out whether the victims were targeted or if this was a random attack. Oakland police are investigating the death of a woman whose body was found near a popular rec center. Officers found the victim at 6 30 this morning near the Francis Smith center on park boulevard near 3rd avenue. Investigators say there was apparent trauma to the womans body. The death is being investigated as a homicide. The womans identity has not been released. Police in modesto are trying to unravel the circumstances that led to three girls being hospitalized with stab wounds overnight. Investigators say a 13yearold girl stabbed another 13yearold and an 11yearold before turning the knife on herself. The incident happened early this morning just after 1 00. One of the girls has since been released from the hospital. Nother two are listeditical co. Critical condition. A dramatic rescue today near tiburon after a sudden and dangerous boat fire. Abc 7 News Reporter Lisa Amin Gulezian has been following the story and joins us live from the Sausalito Marina tonight with more. Lisa . Reporter ama, the claim barge has been here for four hours. Moving the burnt boat has been quite the undertalking. Its currently underneath that blue tarp behind me. While investigators done think this was a suspicious fire they do say its crucial they find out what caused it. 30 feet of burnt fiberglass is pulled from Sausalito Marina tonight. It was once a motorized pleasure craft owned by this man in the black sweatshirt. Earlier today it was cruising along the bay carrying five children and three adults when the boats owner saw smoke coming from the vents. He called for help. Because they said it was pretty hot and they really didnt know what to do, the coast guard asked them to put on life jackets and then get in the water. Reporter but before jumping into the cold water the owner made another distress call to a nearby boater. The owner of the boat was able to fire a warning flare toward the other boat, grab his attention as they jumped in. The other boat came over and picked him up. Reporter they were in the water for about five minutes, but just after they jumped fire consumed the boat. Firefighters heard two loud explosions and were forced to stay back. They fought the blaze by eventuallats. From their fire they eventually put the fire out and pulled the boat to a more remote area. Longtime boaters cant stop talking about what they call a rare situation on the water. Outrageous. Ive never heard anything like that. A fire on a boat is devastating. Its really dangerous. Im curious what caused the fire. And i imagine thats why theyre trying to get it out of the water, so they can investigate and find that out. Reporter the boat will be taken to san rafael tonight, and investigators will take a closer look at the remains tomorrow. In sausalito, Lisa Amin Gulezian, abc 7 news. There is renewed urgency tonight in the search for that missing malaysian jetliner. Chinese media reported today that a chinese ship detected electronic pulses in the south indian ocean not far from where an intense search is ongoing, but tonight the head of the multinational search is stressing that while its an encouraging sign the source of the sounds is not yet verified. Abc News Reporter Chuck Sivertsen has the latest. Reporter the reports that a chinese ship heard a pulse signal using the same frequency emitted by black boxes could be the break the world has been waiting for. If that is sustained, in other words, if they heard that on a continuous basis, then they may actually have something. Reporter a chinese plane also reported seeing debris near where the pulse was heard. Now the multinational fleelt of planes and ships scouring the waters of the south indian ocean are in a race to find that ping quickly before the batteries in the flight and cockpit voice recorders fall silent. I think the warranty runs out probably on sunday. We may get four or five days after that. And if theyre really good batteries, you might get a week or so longer. But were getting very close. Reporter two ships launched underwater sensors again on saturday to listen for the pings, but theyll need to be within one mile of the sounds to hear them. Public Health Officials in berkeley tonight say an unknown number of people may have been exposed to a uc student infected with measles. The cal student, the second in two months to be diagnosed with measles, not only rode from oakland to berkeley on b. A. R. T. But also attended classes this week. Health officials opened up a clinic today on campus. They say there is not an outbreak. We are seeing more cases in california than weve seen in prior years. And thats related primarily to some outbreaks that are going on overseas. So theres an outbreak in the philippines, and there are higher rates of measles in other countries than there are here. Since january 1st, california has reported 50 cases of measles. Last year at this time the count was four. Tonight b. A. R. T. Starting monday, its going to cost you more to cross the Golden Gate Bridge. A 1 toll hike goes into effect. Rates for fastrak will be 6. And pay by plate will be 7. The toll will rise again by 25 cents in july of 2015 and another 25 cents every year until july of 2018. The district says its facing a 142 million shortfall over five years. A group of San Francisco teens is back home tonight after an eyeopening journey to connect with their african heritage. The group spent the last nine days in akra, ghana, learning about the journey and coming here to america. The teens are all from San Franciscos bay view Hunters Point area. Everyone sos kind to each other. Its my brother, my sister, my family. Everyones one there. No ones different. Everyone loves each other. Everyones so kind to each other. I think thats definitely what was most different and shocking to me. And it looks like as i said there by tuesday and wednesday temperatures in the mid to low 80s. Now, i know tomorrows going to be a beach day, but we do have some precautions out there. Beach hazard is in place. Risk of rip currents as well as sneaker waves as northwest swells start to build. Theyre not going to be huge. Probably eight to ten feet. But nonetheless, be advised that at least tomorrow, possibly ling yrg in ering into monday, we could have some problems there. By 5 00 a. M. Tomorrow morning we are still clear.
