Thats the hardest part. A chilling story of survival. Abc7 news talked with the only man who lived through a devastating boating accident that killed 4 people. Good evening. Im katie. The boat capsized near bodega bay. Now the story you will only see on abc7 news. They had dk cades of experience and some fished commercially. He cant believe he lived to tell his story. He nearly drowned while swimming to shore. I was on an ice chest and shoved sideways and see bubbles. He has been fishing out of bodega bay for years and on saturday he was thrown over board. They were on a 32foot boat that capsized by a rogue wave. Sanchez was the only one who survived. The guilt, why me . Thats the hardest part. His friends, 79yearold jesse langely and sam garcia were last seen lifeless in the water. And so was another man, david costa. The fourth person was a woman, an acquaintance known as christie. Sanchez was flown by helicopter to the hospital after swimming 20 minutes to shore. He cut his arm on the ocean rocks and twice he thought he wasnt going to make it. I figured it was over. I got up and ran out of breath and i sucked a little air and a bunch of water. They were 250 yards out in the ocean in an area where they have never had a wave sneak up on them the way it did on saturday. Judy garcia says her husband, sam, was looking forward to getting some crab for a crab salad that night. He wasnt wearing a life vest and neither was anyone else on the boat. I went out with him for years. I will tell you, we didnt wear life scwak cets. Life jackets. We knew where they were. They were cumbersome. Cumbersome perhaps, but he wont go out to sea without one. You can wear the ones that pop up when you get in the water. I will buy one, believe me. You dont get two chances. A whole new outlook after a life changing experience. Lilian kim, abc7 news. They dropped so low even some bay area gas stations are selling it for less than 3 a gallon. Abc7 News Reporter is live in mill valley with the details. Sergio . Katie, this station in mill valley has been busy all weekend, and this is the reason why. They are selling gas, unleaded there, 2. 99 a gallon. The average price in the bay area is a little higher than this. But it just so happens that this is the national average. 2. 99 a gallon. Drivers havent seen prices this low in about four years. This mill valley filling station is well worth the drive. I live in daly city. Wow. So did you drive all the way up . I am on my way to gold country, but i stopped here. She wasnt the only one who made it a point to stop in at this station. All evening there was a steady line of drivers patiently waiting to fill up. At 2. 99 a gallon it is no wonder why this place is so popular. There is a station in san jose selling regular gas for the cash price of 2. 82 a gallon. Across the country gas prices are on the decline for a few reasons. There is a lot of u. S. Production. We are at an all time low in terms of the percent we are importing. Dan is a uc berkeley professor who tracks gas prices and specializes in energy and resources. He says u. S. Companies have been able to extract more domestic oil through fracking and other methods. And there are now more hybrids and electric cars on the road than ever. That means u. S. Gas prices are now more insulated from global oil prices. Even if there was, say, another battle in the mideast, it wouldnt have that much of an affect on us where 10 years ago it would cause a spike in prices. At 2. 99 a gallon this station is at the national average. There is a good chance that average will drop even further. In mill valley, abc7 news. It is a scam that has the feel of an International Spy thriller. Instead of stealing your personal information thieves are holding it hostage until you pay. 7 on your sides Michael Finney has the story. Attorney Christina Chin was settling in for another work day at her San Francisco law office when suddenliy something sinister shook her world. I thought it was a joke until the message popped up. Christina was trying to open a file on her computer when everything went blank and a threat appeared on the screen. We are cryptowall and we are taking your files. It had taken over her computer and locked her files. If she wanted them back she would have to pay a ransom. They actually called it a ransom. You have to pay a ransom. It is the work of an under World Organization called cryptowall operating in russia or eastern europe. Christina tried to open other documents and all were locked. 20 years of case files, bank records, tax returns, photos and letters. Every one of them with the same pop up. I knew it was not a scwoak. Some victims are paying upwards of 10,000 to get their files back. Keith jarvis is investigating cryptowall as is the fbi. Criminals in fect computers with a virus called ransomware that basically kidnaps files and holds them hostage. They have affected 800,000 Computers Worldwide since a quarter million in the United States alone. Already victims have paid out more than 1 million in ransom. They will first charge you 500. Thats if you pay immediately or within a few days. Thats the price. If you wait a few more days, they will jack the price up to a thousand. They steer victims to this screen with a count down clock like this one. 95 hours and 54 minutes to pay or the price goes up. And they must pay in bit coins, n an untrace believe a currency. It reads like a spy movie or international conspiracy. It is very surprising that it would happen to an ordinary person like myself. The message told her, dont waste time. No other solutions exist. You ma i as well pay. Security experts agree. There is no way to unscramble the coding. Victims escape only if they back up their files somewhere else. Christina did not. Even her tech consult at the present time said consultant said to pay up. They have you over the barrel. I was shocked that there are these types of viruses out there that basically take a gun to palms head. Edgar chen is her nephew. A computer whiz she called as is a last resort. She searched for a way to unlock the files. Impossible until a small miracle. There was one solution we might have had and that is something called a shadow copy. He found it hidden in christinas computer. It automatically backs up files, but only if the user had it turned on. Was christinas activated . We went to shadow copy and there were all of her files. Amazingly who ever set up her computer set on the restore feature. Just by checking that box copies of every file were resting there. I think i am lucky. We were extremely happy. I think people should know. It could happen to anyone. Cryptowall is affecting computers by sending fishing emails that look real. The virus will crawl into your computer. Dont click on emails and protect yourself by backing up files in a separate place. Michael finney, 7 on your side. The wait ended tonight for gamers looking to buy the newest call of duty video game. Question, remember the one time we covered the 9ers in the super bowl . The niners are not playing like they have super bowl aspirations, but the rams had something to do with that. They had a sack party and Colin Kaepernick was the host. Performing like a playoff team. Theyett trued kaepernick like a pinata. Not a great way to impress a world series manager.
