Well bring you more on Harrison Fords plane crash. Contra Costa College is taking center stage today. A relatively small group of students making a big statement. Students managed to shut down the uc campus today. They rocked both roads into campus early this morning forcing all classes to be cancelled. That sent students scam blirng, trying to prepare for finals. Abc 7 News Reporter chris winn live on campus with todays standoff. Chris . Good afternoon at this point its unclear whether the student protesters will be facing any disciplinary action from the university. If you take a look behind me you can see those who remain here blocking this entrance to campus. No word yet on how much longer theyll be protesting. University officials are hopeful that classes will resume tomorrow. They came before the crack of dawn and held steady throughout the day. Student protesters Standing Firm blocking all entrances to uc santa cruz. Were not going to let business as usual continue. As long as these hikes are on the table. Raising awareness about tuition hikes, policing and what they say is the mismanagement of the uc system. The only way this trend is going to be reversed is if students stand up and say theyve had enough. Students and staff cancelling classes and warning the community to stay off campus. These kinds of things are disruptive to a lot of people. We have research to conduct, classes to teach. People live on campus and have appointments they need to get to. Child care. Reese morgan is currently on crutches. Protesters wouldnt let his friends pick him up. He too had to hike. They wont let you throw. Which is pretty frustrating. East bay resident came to the university on a sales call not knowing what too expect. Definitely cut into my day, i wont be able to see as many people as i wanted to. His agent reportedly sent a letter to all nfl teams saying mcdonald will not be charged in a Sexual Assault case in san jose. However, abc 7 news spoke with the Santa Clara County District Attorney who told us, that investigation is still open and theres no decision yet about possible charges. The 49ers released mcdonald in december. The team said it was because of mcdonalds history of poor decisions. An employee of a lafayette preschool is under investigation for what police are calling Inappropriate Conduct with a child. Parents with kids at the Temple Isaiah preschool received notice this week, that police are looking at allegations made against an employee. The person is not being named and hasnt been arrested but has been placed on leave. Administrators are taking the allegations seriously. And ask that all of you respect the ongoing process and refrain from speculation or unfounded rumors. Oakland Police Arrested 16 people tonight. Part of a major effort to reduce gang violence. They say their investigation was designed to put an end to the feuding 65th and 69th avenue village gangs. The two groups have been killing each other as well as innocent by standers for years now. A local Church Leader is happy about the arrest. But today called on the community to do more. The innocent people that are dying almost every day now. It has to stop. It has to come to a stop. People who know more than what theyre saying, who hear more than what theyre saying. We need to come together. Oakland police are expected to release the mugshots and the identities of those people arrested later today. Only a single runway at new Yorks Laguardia airport is open right now, after a plane individuals into a fence. Two of the passengers went to the hospital with minor injuries. In a moment, passengers posted video and photos to social media as they got off the plane. Now, this video shows people climbing over the wings the planes emergency chutes did not deploy. One of those passengers was larry donald. He tweeted this picture here. And the new York Fire Department posted this photo. This is a view from the water, you see just how close that plane got to the bay. Two other pilots landed minutes before this incident. They both reported good breaking conditions. Its not clear what factors may have led to this. I think the pilot did everything he could to slow the aircraft down. The pilots and the co pilots good efforts were reflected in the fact that there were only minor injuries. The plane was leaking a gallon of fuel a minute after the crash. That was quickly stopped. A handful at Oakland International airport. All three are dealing with various delays because of the weather back east. U. S. Ambassador to south korea mark lippert is recovering after a brutal knife attack. He studied Political Science at stanford. He worked for dianne feinstein. He says hes in great spirits despite needing 80 stitches. Karen traverse has more on the attack and what may have prompted it. It was a vicious and violent attack. Heres u. S. Ambassador to south korea mark lippert just moments after being ambushed by a korean militant. How could a knife wielding man get that close to a top diplomat. The assailant walked right up to lippert armed with a ten inch knife. He was shouting south and north korea should be reunified as he lunged at the ambassador before being wrestled to the ground. You have to stop lippert was rushed to the hospital where he was treated for deep cuts to his face and wrist. He got 80 stitches but is expected to remain in the hospital for a few days. Lippert is a close relationship with president obama. He served as an adviser and then worked at the white house. Tensions between north and south korea have increased this week while the United States and south korea conduct annual military exercises. Lipperts attacker was ranting as he was taken away by Police North Korea called the incident a knife attack of justice. And a righteous punishment for war monger United States. Authorities in Washington State are investigating a deadly crash between a school bus and two other vehicles today. The vehicles collided on highway 97 near the Central Washington town killing the bus driver and injuring 43 of the 57 students on board. You can see the entire front of the bus is smashed in. Two people in the truck suffered serious injuries. Authorityies believe the truck driver may have fallen asleep. Police blocking off a street near the school while they search for one or more suspects. So far we know the teen was stabbed at least once near the school. The victim is not a student at independence high, but may have a connection to ace charter school, which is in the same complex. A man convicted of a large scale mortgage fraud scheme has been sentenced. Allen will spend the next 24 years behind bars. In september, he was convicted of 11 counts of mail fraud and one count of money laundering. 7 on your sides Michael Finney previously reported. A new type of homeless shelter, one unlike anything seen in the city before. The mayor toured the facility this morning was once a school near mission and 16th streets, now it has space for 18 beds. The idea is to find people who have been living on the street together and getting them to find help as a group. It has space for them to store their belongings and pets. Its something they cant do at regular shelters. You see people with three shopping carts and you look and say, what are you going to do. Were going to be roll those shopping carts right here, we have storage bins where peoples property can be maintained. Homeless people can stay at the shelter for up to 10 days. The council contributed 3 million to get the center up and running. The first graders at Alta Vista Elementary School are doing their part to feed the homeless. They spent the morning making hundreds of Peanut Butter and jelly sandwiches with the help of the Salvation Army. It can get a little messy at times, the kids were excited to be able to help out. Especially after reading several books about homelessness and soup kitchens. The books talk about homelessness, theyve been introduced to the idea of People Living on the street and not having homes and maybe some of the challenges of that. The chase ended when the suspect slammed into another car near 680 and ran away. Police tell us the suspect broke into a home in antioch this morning. A witness saw the suspects running through the parking lot of a nearby i debated whether i should chase them or not, and i feel reluctant that i didnt chase them im glad they got caught. Police recovered all the stolen property from the home along with a loaded gun. The city of palo alto is reminding drivers to keep valuables out of your car, after a rash of nine late night car burglaries you can see the garage on high street where three cars were broken into. Four other burglaries happened on webster street, hamilton avenue, University Avenue and el camino real. Among the items stolen laptops and tablets, most of the cars were rentals.
