Leading into the Diablo Country Club. There are homes along this road but were told there is another way in and out so they arent completely stuck but quite a mess to deal with this morning. And it didnt just happen here. The winds took out a few trees in the bay area overnight. Look at this one that happened in oakland. This is skyline and redwood road near highway 13. Not only took out the tree but brought down a lot of debris with it leaves and branches. The winds were powerful overnight. Usually tracy is the bad spot. Its bizarre. Came around the corner and saw this. Its crazy. Reporter he is with the company thats hired to handle the cleanup here at diablo. The problem is a little bigger than he thought it was going to be so hes waiting for more equipment to get here and sun light before he tackles this. Happening now, the wind is making for a mess in San Francisco. A huge tree blew over blocking three of the four lanes of traffic on the sonic avenue and sell street this morning. A major area. Cleanup crews are chopping up the 50foot long tree. The wind also blew into San Francisco from the berrysea fire in napa. Smoke and residents on union street called the Fire Department after smelling the smoke and not knowing if their building was on fire. Yeah. Its pretty it kind of has like a wood fire smell to it. I dont know how else to describe it. Scaffolding into power lines knocked out power to residents on 20th and deharo. We are checking with pg e to find out how many are without power. Theres going to be leaves, twigs, tree branches, pine, pine needles all that will be in the road during the day and especially this morning before it gets all filtered out. Sounds like a serious accident but theyre trying to push everything to the shoulder nonetheless. More now on breaking news we are following in san jose. Firefighters are mopping up after an Early Morning house fire on foot hill court west of foothill park. Officials tell us it appears the fire started in the attic of the twostory home. They say winds were a factor pushing flames throughout the home. The family inside got out safely. Abc reporter Katie Marzullo will join nous a few minutes. The fire is burning in the area of berrysea and knoxville road on the east side of the lake. The fire has burned 376 ikers since it broke out around 8 30 last night. Strong winds proving to be a challenge for firefighters there. They have it 75 contained. A few structures were threatened last night but thats not the case anymore this morning. Firefighters hope to have the fire fully contained by 6 00 tonight. This morning Major League Baseball will do all it can to dismiss an antitrust lawsuit filed by the city of san jose. A hearing will be held today to consider the leagues motion to have the lawsuit dismissed. City claims the league is violating antitrust laws by stalling efforts to relocate the oakland as to san jose. Under a 1922 Supreme Court decision, the league has been exempt from antitrust laws. But attorneys representing san jose argue that exemption applies only to player and labor issues, not to team relocation. A viewing will be held for a San Francisco teen killed in a car crash last week. Authorities say 16yearold kevin sand was heading to Lincoln High School last friday when 58yearold jenny juice slammed into his mothers minivan killing him. Kevins city and mother were seriously injured. His mother remains in a coma. Authorities say juice was going 80 Miles Per Hour when she hit the van. Todays viewing will be from noon to 6 00 at the funeral home in San Francisco. Kevins funeral is set for tomorrow. New details this morning on the car chase that shut down the nations capitol yesterday. It started when a woman tried to drive through the barriers at the white house and ended with officers shooting and killing her near the capitol building. Abcs tamon bradley joins us with the latest. Overnight police descended on her stanford, connecticut, home looking for clues. Careys family members tell abc news she was suffering postpartum depression serious enough to require hospitalization. Police also visited her childhood home in brooklyn. Smile on her face. Seemed like there still was a problem. Reporter the lockdown in washington started at 2 12 p. M. The driver of a black sedan rams into a barrier outside the white house. Police swarm the scene but the driver pulled away. The first shots are firtsds. After they arrived i heard the gunshots and car tore out of the area. Reporter a chase up pennsylvania avenue. The driver stops at the base of the u. S. Capitol. Everyone inside the capitol complex was told to shelter in place. Congressmen walking outside told to hide their identities. Well take your pin off. It has we wear these pins around. Inside careys car, no weapons but something much more alarming, a 1yearold baby who was unhurt. Two officers, one from the Capitol Police and one from the secret service, were injured in the chase. You can feel it outside this morning with the winds, the dry air, the warm conditions and look at that lack of any moisture on live doppler 7 hd. Lets talk about the dew points. How sticky it was monday. Dew points in the 60s. This was the measure of the moisture in the air. The temperature would have to drop down to this temperature for the air to become 100 saturated. So you can see just how bone dry it is. Lets put it in terms were more used to and show you the relative humidity out there right now. Its in the 20 to 30 range why were dealing with the high fire danger. Outside bouncing around in the 25 to 30 mile per hour gusts. As we look all the way down to almost the san mateo bridge. Its going to be warm today with dry breezes throughout the better part of the afternoon hours. The highs will continue to stay warm even with the breezes and fire danger relaxing as we head through the weekend. Next week the transition to cooler weather, its looking more likely it could be wet. Its not a great chance but at least its something to look forward to as far as wet weather. A thermal trough where all the warm air, the winds are moving together and where we find the warmest air. Its backing its way from the Central Valley to the coast. Thats why its going to be so warm this weekend. Lets talk about temperatures today. The coast, upper 60s to low 70s. Well have mid to upper 70s San Francisco and richmond. Abc 7 News Reporter Amy Hollyfield starts off our Team Coverage in diablo. We had a tree down right here in the middle of this road and the last 30 minutes theyve brought a chainsaw out here and managed to break it up into some pieces and move it out of the way. You can see its still a mess out here. Lots of debris that comes down along with these trees. And to show you a better example of that, look at this video we took overnight in oakland where a tree came down and also a lot of leaves and branches along with it. And if you look at this live picture a car just made it through, this is the first car weve seen able to pass through here. Things are looking up in this area. Scaffolding set up against a building under renovation at 20th streets here in San Francisco. Pg e crews were called out to fix the damage to the lines. More problems caused by the windy weather. Check out video of this tree that crashed into a red pickup truck in napa. It happened in the area of solano avenue. Branches shattered the windshield and went into the truck. No word on any injuries. Its 5 32 right now. We want to talk more about the winds and when theyll begin to die down for us. Check in with meteorologist mike nicco. He has the answers. Mike . Were tracking the winds, live doppler 7, these are the wind speeds but not gusts. Thats where we start to see the damage. These are the sustained speeds around 20 in napa, 12 in novato, everybody else around 10 or below. We could have gusts through 3 00 this afternoon, up to 50 Miles Per Hour in the east northeast sustained around 20 to 35 Miles Per Hour. Thats also heightening the fire danger above 1,000 feet. Firefighters are blaming high winds for helping to fuel a house fire in san jose. Abc 7 News Reporter Katie Marzullo is live on the scene at foothill court. Reporter matt, the firefighters are still here on the scene. See we just watched them wrap up some hoses here. As we pan over the house you can see the damage that was done. Most to the second story of this fam iily home on foothill court. Two of six people evacuated without injuries and must be stable enough because the woman who lives here has gone back inside. Lets roll video and show you how bad these flames were this morning. Fire broke out just before 3 00 this morning inside the house. There were the two adults, two Senior Citizens and two children as well, but as i said they all were able it to get out okay. We dont know yet, its too early to know what caused this fire but what firefighters do know is that the heavy winds down here didnt help. The wind was definitely a factor. We did have some gusty winds, kind of coming and going. Initially when we got here what was driving the fire really once the fire broke through to the roof, it started driving the fire back into the attic and pushing the fire inside. Reporter those flames up through the roof and thats how the wind also was able to get ahold of them and this fire actually flared back up about an hour, little less than an hour after it started. A wildfire burning near lake berrysea in napa county is 75 contained this morning. The fire which broke out last night around 8 30 is scorching the area around berrysea, knoxville road. 500 acres has burned so far. The fire is 75 contained and the cause still being investigated. Contra costa firefighters are near a scene of a brush fire in martinez. It started around 1 00 this morning in a wild land area on solano way north of highway 4. Smoke and flames could be seen in a wide area. No word on what caused the fire, how much brush was burned and the extent of any damage. Flying embers from a fire at a recycling plant are blamed for sparking 18 other fires along i5. Fire broke out yesterday at 3 00 in stockton. Part of interstate 5 was closed for a short while. Officials say it started with burning paper outside the plant and spread. Firefighters say they couldnt get to it fast enough. In this case the fire started at the front and absolutely prohibited our units to get into the fire scene. The fire spread to several propane tanks that exploded. No injuries were reported. Authorities are investigating whether postpartum depression drove a connecticut mother to try to drive past barriers at the white house and u. S. Capitol. Authorities identify the woman shot and killed by police after leading them on a highspeed chase as 34yearold miriam carey. The fbi searched her home last night. Relatives say she suffered from serious postpartum depression after giving birth to daughter last year. Investigators say carey tried to back into officers who tried to stop her. Ravel William Ulbricht was arrested tuesday in a San Francisco library. Federal prosecutors filed charges in new york alleges ulbricht is the mastermind who operated silk road, a digital marketplace that for three years allowed users to trade illegal goods and services in near total secrecy. Ulbricht is charged in maryland with using the website to try to hire someone to kill a witness. A Santa Clara High School teacher accused of having sex with an underage student is expected to enter a plea when he returns to court this morning. Police arrested 32yearold cortez gusmond days ago. Someone tipped off School Officials about inappropriate contact with a 17yearold female. Who attended santa clara high. The district contacted police who took him into custody. T and Union Negotiators will be back in the bargaining table this morning with six days left before the end of their cooling off period. B. A. R. T management is considering the latest offer presented by the unions. Workers have lowered their base pay proposal to increases below 15 over three years. Both sides have reached a deal on pension contributions. If no new contract is reached, the unions could strike again as early as next friday when a 60day cooling off period ordered by Governor Brown expires. A vernall Heights Community remembering a mother who was killed when she was run over by a rec and park worker. Friends and family held a vigil for christy vonmere. Authorities say she was sun bathing with her infant and dog when an employee ran her over with his truck last month in holley park. The wife of the suv driver chased down and assaulted by a group of motorcyclists in new york city said her husband only wanted to protect his family. A group of motorcyclists surrounding the black range rover. The driver alexian lien took off but ran over one. Motorcyclists pull lien from his car and beat him in front of his wife and daughter. One of the bikers said he and the group were ready to walk away. Look at the end of the video he walked away. What you dont see at the end is the guy mouthing off. Which is more aggressive behavior. If youre worried for your family dont be aggressive. Liens wife expressed sympathy to one biker who was seriously injured but said her husband was faced with a lifethreatening situation. A large new American Cancer Society study has found physical activity reduces the risk of Breast Cancer in postmenopausal women.
