Right now the scene here at the mall remains closed to investigators and police are calling on the public to provide any video, any witness accounts, to help them better understand this horrific shooting that now leaves eight people dead and seven others wounded. Now authorities report the first gunfire came in around 3 30 saturday afternoon. Thats when witnesses say a man dressed in black wearing body armor, looking similar to a Police Officer, began walking through the mall property firing indiscriminately, sending thousands of people running for cover. Authorities tell us a Police Officer that was responding to an unrelated call, heard that gunfire and ran towards the sound, immediately engaging the gunman, shooting and killing him. But in the moments before police arrived, we are told that hundreds did whatever they could inside this property to survive. So we ran to the back, barricaded it with concrete bricks. Right then on the security camera, thank god we went in the back at that time, we saw him walk right by. Masked up, fake Police Outfit on. Reporter and this morning weve learned both the atf and the fbi are assisting local authorities in this very much ongoing investigation. They have yet to share the identity of this gunman or share the weapon he used, but, willie, weve learned of those seven individuals who were wounded, three of whom remain in Critical Condition this morning. They want to raise the debt limit with no strings attached, but the republicans say they want spending cuts attached. So the treasury secretary janet yellen said june 1st is basically the drop dead date when we may not be able to pay our bills if they dont work this out. The white house said were not negotiating on this. This isnt how this works. So how does this end . Well, i think its going to the best Case Scenario right now, willie, it ends in a punt. And here is why i say that. First of all, consider this stat that were going to make a big deal out of this morning. Less than one in four republicans in the house were in congress the last time we had one of these debt ceiling showdowns. What does that mean . When you have three and four that have never been there, dont really accept the premise that this is potentially catastrophic, it means that they may need to feel the pain before they react. So one potential shortterm solution thats out there thats gaining some traction is this idea of a shortterm lift to the debt ceiling and merging it with the budget negotiations in the fall. Now what does that mean . Well, we could have a debt ceiling standoff and a Government Shutdown all coming together at the same time, but it would mean putting this off three or four months. Believe it or not, some democrats and republicans both, because its a facesaving move, because then democrats can say they didnt negotiate on the debt ceiling and republicans can say, hey, they put the debt ceiling with the budget negotiation. Its the only move that might be able to keep both parties at least at the table for another three months. Never a good sign when your best Case Scenario is a punt.
