Homes are destroyed by a new wildfire, in what is fast becoming one of that states worst fire seasons ever. And rock royalty, the legendary steven tyler live on our plaza, got a couple of classics from the sounds you may not expect friday, june 24, 2016. Announcer from nbc news, this is today with matt lauer and Savannah Guthrie live from studio 1a in Rockefeller Plaza. Good morning everyone. Welcome to today on a friday morning, 7 00 on the west coast. People were wondering what the results of the brexit vote would be immediately, take a look. This is the New York Stock Exchange down almost 400 points on this friday morning. This echoed across the world, this has been what a lot of people are calling earthquake, a different world were waking up to. And it is our top story. Of course the fallout over the decision by voters in britain to leave the eu, and the uncertainty over what happens next. Complete coverage beginning with chief global correspondent bill neely outside the house of parliaments in london. Good morning. Reporter good morning from a stunned britain this is the biggest political shock in this country for half a century, the victors calling it britains independence day. Most Political Parties here, big business, unions, all wanted britain to stay in the European Union, the people decided otherwise. And the big risk is that this isnt just a shock here, that its a shock in europe, and as we heard, globally on the stock markets. This means that the uk has voted to leave the European Union. Reporter after the earthquake the aftershock, britains Prime Minister resigning. I do not think it would be right for me to try to be the captain that steers our country to its next destination. Reporter this is a Prime Minister who gambled with his own and his countrys future and lost spectacularly. He will go down in history but not as he expected. The result was a shock right from the start. No one expected a win for those campaigning for britain to leave, the 28member European Union. We will call it independence day. Reporter the vote hinged on three irk us, britains sovereignty, jobs and immigration. The vote to leave, 5248. Britain the first country to say thats enough. Britains currency plunged. Now, everyone has to deal with it including president obama who came to britain to urge voters to stay in europe. David cameron may be going but britains special relationship with the u. S. Is not. As a disappointed Vice President made clear on a visit to ireland. We prefer a different outcome. Reporter and this man is favorite to be britains new leader. Its about the right of the people of this country to settle their own destiny. Reporter Boris Johnson led the lead campaign, a campaign that has turned britain and a stunned European Union on its head. And as proof how stunned the french Prime Minister said this is an explosive shock at stake is the breakup pure and simple of the European Union. Also the leader of scotland has said this vote means that scotland should have a second vote on its independence so the shock waves could mean not only the breakup of the European Union eventually but actual think breakup of the United Kingdom. Bill neely in london, thank you. Lets turn to christopher dickey, the world news editor for the daily beast. Good morning to you or should i say good afternoon. You know, we were talking about what a shock this is. Yet, this referendum has been coming for a while. There has been polling, it showed a close vote. Yet there is this sense no one saw it coming. Well, i think there was a lot of wishful thinking, more like the Scottish Referendum a while back, people thought their pollings would show it was close but at the end of the day all of those undecided voters would come through and say lets keep the status quo. Lets keep britain in the European Union. But it didnt happen. So what happens now, chris . I mean we talked about a domino effect, people going as far as to say it will now be the breakup of the European Union. If there is going to be more to this in terms of dominos where do we look . Well, i think that france is really the most problematic because it was one of the founding members of the European Economic community, founding of the eurozone, all of these things. There is sentiment against europe in france, and the person who is guiding that sentiment is the leader of the far right National Front party who is going to do very well in president ial elections next year, according to all of the polls. Even if she doesnt take the final victory herself. There is this issue of sovereignty, that was at play in this vote. Also, immigration and jobs and in a lot of ways seems those are the real fuel for this fire. Well, you know savannah, i mean the thing that has gone unsaid too often in the discussions today about brexit is that the driving force in this was the migrant crisis. Hundreds of thousands of syrians and north africans in italy and greece and elsewhere they said weve got to stop this. And europe, the European Union, the european commission, the european government in brussels seemed completely incapable of dealing with that. And that helped mightily the people pushing the brexit vote in britain. They said what is this government in brussels that it cant stop these people from coming in . Now, did that play the racist sentiment yes, absolutely it did but we cant say everybody who was voting for brexit was a racist or a zen 0 phobe but it affected the emotions and as Margaret Thatcher used to say referendums are a bad idea, they are based on emotion. Christopher dickey unparis for us. Thank you very much. Donald trump kicked off a business trip he happened to have in scotland this morning immediately weighed in on the vote upon landing. Katie tour is live. Good morning. Reporter good morning. As markets both abroad and home were dropping and mounting concerns about a global recession, donald trump is golfing right now at his golf course in scotland. Praising brexit and saying that a devaluation of the pound would be good for his business here. Donald trumps flying to scottland and landing in political chaos as the uk votes to leave the eu, a move trump encouraged. And compared to his own campaign. Purely historic. I love to see people take their country back. And thats really whats happening in the United States, and i think you see that. And thats whats happening in many other places in the world. Reporter trump drawing parallels to his immigration plan. People want to see borders, they dont necessarily want people pouring into their country, that they dont know who they are and where they come from. Reporter the visit is not an official Campaign Event but a Ribbon Cutting at a golf course he owns. We have something that is very special, considered one of the most beautiful buildings in all of golf. Reporter the Clinton Campaign already attacking him for it releasing a web video mocking trumps trip abroad. Donald trump is a fool. Reporter this week Trumps Campaign has been in the rough, down in the polls, down on cash and down on gop support. But there are signs he is turning things around reportedly raising 19 million for joint fundraising with the rnc and earning the endorsement of donald rumsfeld. The trip is the latest visit to a trump property. In the past year the candidate has taken his campaign to nine of his own locales from mara logo and trump tower and scotland. Why i use somebody elses products action they arent as good and two, one of those things. Reporter its ironic he is praising brexit while he is in scotland one of the few places that voted to stay in the European Union. For Prime MinisterDavid Cameron who is now resigning, donald trump calls him a good man who just misread the mood of his country. Thank you. Lets bring in chuck todd. Good morning to you. Lets look at the political fallout from this here in this country. Its really hard to say that this isnt a victory for donald trump and his political world view over Hillary Clinton and Barack Obamas political world view. Will it impact the election here . I dont know if it will impact the election, what it should do is wake some of us up in the sort of political and media elite world which is there has been i would argue a global middle class revolt against political elites and leadership around in western itzed democracies all around the world. And the issue of economic anxiety thats been fueling both Bernie Sanders and donald trump, in this country, its ditto in the uk, ditto in france, ditto in germany, in japan. So the point is that this is something that people got to take seriously. The middle class, its frustrated. Just like weve seen here with the use of immigration sort of feeding into fears on economic anxiety that is what fueled what happened there and never mind the fact this is also connected to a decision or a lack of a decision that president obama made when it came to the issue of syria. And that in itself will have a bigger impact i think on the Campaign Debate about what to do about the middle east, which of course is helping to lead to the crackup of europe. Talk about the campaign. As we mentioned trump happens to be in scotland but not on a foreign trip that candidates take, he is there to promote the opening of a golf course. He got some criticism when asked about this world event he started talking about his golf course. By the way, savannah, in a parallel universe, a president ial presumptive nominee on the ground in the country thats in the news of the moment could have been political genius. He could be there starting to have meetings and understanding the issue better but instead he is there promoting himself and his own brand, and ive been thinking earlier this week, he ripped into the clintons for what is a charge that others made for years that they use their own political connections to make money, to enrich themselves or to enrich their friends. Well, that may be an effective message against the clintons but he is the right mengen ger using his campaign to prop up his golf course . Chuck, thanks. Lets look at the reaction on wall street as we speak. Jim cramer at the New York Stock Exchange. Good morning. We saw the european markets get banged up. What do you see in the dow and the u. S. Markets . I see kind of a nutty situation. This market is barely down, all its done is reverse yesterdays rally. I think a lot of people here including a lot of local media, a lot of trucks outside from different Media Outlets would have indicated that we would be down 500, 600, 7. We opened below and rallying. I want to caution its early in the day, there can be many things that can happen but right now people are taking it in stride. I mean, not to contradict you but this thing has gone all over the place, jim. Started at 200, to 400, back to 300, up to almost 500. So its hard to say right now people are taking it in stride, isnt it . Well, but i would have expected that we could have been down very much at the opening and then gone down again. So, in stride only because all weve done, matt, is given up yesterday right at this moment. I think thats wrong. I think we could revisit lower prices, all im saying is that there should be more reaction than we had. And that we should at least be back to where we were a few weeks ago when we were concerned that brexit so to speak would win. I guess all im saying is that its just kind of business as usual and i would have expected more. Theres no panic at all. This is just one moment one time, do you expect the economy here in the u. S. In particular, to take it to feel those ripple effects . I think there are people that see that our market is a safe haven, our Interest Rates have gone down again so stocks that yield 3, 4 are doing better. The pain seems to be the financials because they are the most linked to europe. I think were being a lit little blind. A level of complacency. I have come on your show when its down big and said please, lets just be in there and take your time, stay the course. Im surprised that people are doing that this time. Its almost as if they were prepared for this. But again, its early, ive seen fridays that have been okay, and badly, mondays lower. I just think that this is not the great buying opportunity ive been waiting for. Jim cramer, keep an eye on it for us. Another major story, a dangerous wild fire growing fast in california. Its destroyed dozens of homes, nbcs Miguel Almaguer is live in lake isabella. Good morning to you. Reporter good morning. This is what the fire has done, we got a briefing from officials, it has destroyed 100 structures and counting, this fire did it all in a matter of hours, one of the most aggressive fires weve seen so far this year. And it may also be the most destructive. Overnight exploding out of control and racing toward homes, so called earthkin fire swallowed communities near lake isabella, california. Its surreal. Ive never been in a fire ive seen so many homes burn. Reporter this firefighter documenting the drama in the middle of a fire storm. We lost structures in multiple communities. Reporter feeding on drought, fueled by scorching temperatures and fanned by the wind. One house, second, third here. Four or five, six down the street. Reporter a wall of flames, hopscotched from home to home. This is a danger zone. Reporter the count now at least 80 structures, propane tanks exploding through the day. With damage mounting and at least 1500 homes threatened, massive evacuations are under way. Im in danger of losing everything that i own. Reporter for now, this volatile fire is unstoppable, hopping highways, smoke, flames and destruction everywhere. Its pretty sad to see. Reporter a monster on the move. Causing unspeakable damage and threatening even more. This fire has now grown to 8,000 acres, it is zero percent contained, 350 firefighters on the ground, hundreds more on the way. Matt. Miguel, thank you. State of emergency in effect in West Virginia and heavy rain triggered deadly flash flooding. Morgan has the latest for us g. Morning. Reporter savannah, good morning.
