And i have a strong feeling that with your support, were going to take the entire west coast [ applause and cheers ] reporter sanders spoke for an hour hitting or familiar themes, taxing wall street, fixing income inequality, making healthcare and education free and being welcoming to muslims and latinos. One face in the crowd belonged to enrique a san jose state student who has illegal immigrant friends and family who got a selfie with sanders. Somebody can stand up for us and have our words spoken. So for him to be doing this is amazing. Reporter he already voted for sanders but in a race where Hillary Clinton has already locked up a nearly insurmountable lead in delegates and superdelegates, Bernie Sanders is a long shot and thats okay with nate. Donald trump striking a nerve in the bay area after calling oakland one of the most dangerous places in the world. In a New York Times magazine article, trump said he has never been to iraq. When asked about the most dangerous place in the world he has been to replied, quote, there are places in america that are among the most dangerous in the world, you go to places like oakland or ferguson. The crime numbers are worse. Seriously. Meanwhile, oakland mayor libby schaaf was quick to tweet this. Quote, let me be clear, the most dangerous place in america is Donald Trumps mouth. A gruesome discovery for neighbors in san jose. A man found dead in a pond. The mans body and white van found in the pond near berryessa and morrill avenue. Devin fehely reports from san jose. Reporter this is where the minivan crashed into the gate and fence here. Its since been repaired. One of the lingering mysteries is when did the crash happen. By the time it was reported and officers arrived, it was already too late. The van drove through a fence into the pond. Partially submerged to the bottom of the window and i can tell if anybody is in the car yet. Were working on that. Reporter it went through the gates and went into the water. When officers arrived, this is what they found. Theres a body floating in the west side of the area. The female sergeant who jumped in and retrieved the body, but the paramedics on scene declared the person dead. Reporter investigators say they dont know why the driver ended up in the pond in the first place or how he died. Theres obviously a lot of different factors that could have caused the persons death. We dont know if it was suicide or a traffic collision, if it was a medical type of condition. Reporter investigators say they hope that an autopsy will provide them with some of those answers. In the meantime, they say it doesnt appear that the driver was the victim of a crime. Theres nothing right now suspicious indicating that a crime was committed. In other words, from what officers could see on scene. Reporter now, a short time ago i got a call from a spokesman for the San Jose Police department who says for now, this crash will be investigated as the citys 17th deadly car crash this year. They say that could, of course, change depending on what they find during the autopsy. Devin fehely, kpix 5, san jose. It was a difficult day for students and teachers at an east bay high school. They are shocked by the death of a classmate who died after football practice last night. Giovanni polito who went by gio collapsed at Encinal High School in alameda. He was taken to Highland Hospital where he died. No word yet on what caused his death. As students were back in class today, School Officials tell us student athletes have to have medical checkups and sign waivers before they can practice. School officials are looking into what kind of policies teams have in place for when practice is scheduled on hot days. They are encouraging students to talk about what happened. The kids and staff are reeling. When a student dies, its a huge blow to the school community. We are providing psychologists today and throughout the week into next week if need be for the students and staff. Many of the students are using the hashtag, rip gio and sending condolences via social media. We learned this afternoon two of four Oakland Police officers on administrative leave for alleged involvement in a sex scandal have quit. As we have been reporting the d. A. Is conducting an investigation into whether several officers had sex with this woman, a 19 yearold who calls herself celeste guap. This started with officer Brendan Obrien who killed himself last year. He left a note admitting he had sent her inappropriate texts and alleged other officers did more. In pittsburg, officers were only aiming their weapons at one suspect but ended up shooting three people. It happened last night. Police say they received a frantic call from a mother saying her son was waving a gun around. When the officers arrived at the house, they found 20year old Rigoberto Gutierrez armed with his father and brother behind him. He was acting irrational according to the mother and pointing the firearm at the father and family members. Officers fired five rounds hitting him in the leg. Bullets also his father in the torso and 17yearold brother in the leg. All three men are expected to survive. An update on a missing millbrae man. His body was found in the field near healdsburg. Investigators now say it was murder. 27yearold keith green was last seen at a pancake house back in april. A few days later his phone turned up in Golden Gate Park but no sign of him. Last week officers discovered his body near highway 101 in sonoma county. Detectives will not say how he died fearing it will compromise the investigation. 10,000 reward being offered for information to try to find a little girl whose mother was found murdered in San Francisco. Nicole fists and fitts and her 2yearold daughter Arianna Fitts were reported missing on april 5. Three days later nicoles body was found in mclaren park. San Francisco Police and the fbi have joined the search now for arianna, but so far there is no sign of the child. New at 5 00 a carjacking and robbery in berkeley this morning. Police say a man pointed a gun at a man as he was getting out of his car stole his keys and cell phone then forced him to go upstairs so he could use the bathroom. This all started on 7th street around 7 a. M. Police say the suspect made the victim turn around while he used the bathroom and then left in the victims car. Officers found him about an hour later at this car wash on university avenue. The 25yearold joseph skyler was booked into jail on suspicion of robbery and carjacking. His passenger, 24yearold harold dennis, was also arrested. Officers also found this twomonthold puppy in the car. The pup is now in the care of animal control officers. The grandmother is still in shock over the incidents. I didnt want to let him come in because i didnt know him and he was acting funny and my grandson had a funny look on his face and i just didnt say anymore. At first i was hesitating. I didnt want him in there. The suspects face several charges including intent to use a gun, armed robbery, kidnapping, carjacking, and carrying a loaded gun into a public place. Its been a problem for crabs, a problem for seals and all kinds of sea life and now warmer temperatures are whats drawing more sharks further north. They may be hanging out offshore but the sharks are the talk of the town. Just came out to take a look. We heard they were out here. So just out here taking a look. Reporter its that time of year when sharks populate the waters off santa cruz. But theres a new visitor this year shark pups that have never been seen here before. Were doing Aerial Surveys since 1990 in the bay. So we have a good sense of whats normal and whats typical and this is definitely atypical. Reporter sean runs the Shark Research foundation. He says warmer ocean waters are to blame. That temperature change has begun a northward migration bringing more sharks here rather than southern california. But not to worry, he says, there havent been any major incidents in this part of monterey bay since 2012 when a kayaker was bitten. These sharks are hardly the size of one of those. Some of these sharks are yearlings barely 6 feet long. They have an entirely different menu. They are eating little leopard sharks, you know, things like that, bat rays. They are not going to bother humans. Reporter so thats all great news for anybody who is going into the ocean. But if you do happen to see a shark while youre swimming, experts say go ahead and tell your lifeguard just to make sure he knows. Live in capitola, emily turner, kpix 5. Developing now, Facebooks Mark Zuckerberg tackling allegations of editorial bias. Chopper 5 was over facebooks campus in menlo park this afternoon. And thats where zuckerberg met with 15 conservative leaders including tv personality radio host glenn beck. The meeting comes after reports that facebooks trending topics feature downplayed conservative topics and news from conservative outlets. The social Media Company is investigating but zuckerberg claims he has found no evidence the allegations are true. New at 5 00 you may notice something new next time you go to an atm. So at some San Francisco branches, they are now offering smartphone atms the same technology that lets people buy things at stores with a touch of a mobile device now allows Bank Customers to withdraw cash, Check Balance and transfer money between accounts. As you see, younger generation, people rely more and more on their mobile devices and typically dont leave home without it. Reporter it eliminates the problem of forgetting your atms card. Right now we have a 21degree temperature swing. San francisco you have gained a few degrees over the past couple of hours. Youre at 70. Concord though still 91. Livermore 89. San jose and santa rosa two of the more comfortable spots in the low 80s. Lets talk about that temperature difference. Lafayette 98 degrees. Only 49 miles away point reyes was 36 degrees cooler. A nearly 40degree temperature spread today. Overnight in the 50s. Winds are doing a flip tomorrow. Say goodbye to the offshore wind and that really warm stuff. Tomorrow afternoon, it will be up to 20 degrees cooler in the south bay and the wind could be up to 30 miles an hour. It will be sunny and cooler. We had 94 in campbell today. You will be about 72 or 73 and windy tomorrow afternoon. So the reason were looking at this map is to explain why. Gone is our ridge of high pressure. Rather than passing by to the south its retreating farther out into the pacific. This area of low pressure which is causing some rain in British Columbia and western washington is working its way toward us. The low actually wont even get within three or four hundred miles but its going to crank up that onshore flow and give us cooler windier weather tomorrow although futurecast says a lot of sunshine tomorrow. Just no heat because the offshore wind is gone. As soon as late friday morning we could see scattered showers and it will be cloudier on friday. Thats your weekend. Saturday morning, scattered showers, saturday at lunchtime widespread scattered showers. Here we go again. A couple of days removed from 98 degrees, well be in the mid 60s and its going to be raining late saturday morning. Its not going to be a weekend washout but there will be showers around saturday. So clouds return to the coast and the bay tonight fog as well much cooler tomorrow and its also going to be breezy to windy but still sunny. Shower chances increase late friday into saturday.
