This is a safety issue and we have heard officials over and over stress that the new bridge will be by far safer than the old bridge. They unloaded the uhaul truck and sedan in broad daylight. Two neighbors are familiar with the problem. They have been calling the city to pick up the large pile of garbage left in front of their building for a week. [ indiscernible ] this is just filthy. Its disrespect disrespectful. I would describe it as disrespectful nasty and not welcome at all. Reporter in fact, oakland has one of the worst Illegal Dumping problems in the bay area. In 2011, it spent 3. 2 million just to clean up after illegal dumpers. The city recently dedicated a team of lawyers just out of law school to go after the offenders. And within a month they caught and cited a dozen people using videos and pictures that showed the offenders license plates. Many of these people by the way do not even live in oakland. They are coming here bringing their trash and dumping it on oakland. Reporter the city wants people to report veil laters and problems like this one here using a mobile app called see, click, fix. You see a problem, you snap a photo. You send it in and they will fix it. People agree making it easier to report the violators and going after them will cut down on Illegal Dumping. But it wont stop the problem. Where theres a will theres a way. Reporter as for these people, the city tracked them down using their plates. They were fined 8,000. Now, the City Attorney is going to ask the council next month to increase the penalties for Illegal Dumping making it a misdemeanor crime. Right now its only an infraction in oakland. Two years ago Governor Brown signed a law making it illegal to possess, sell or distribute shark fins here in california. Now, today the states new shark fin ban swam through another court hearing. The removal of shark fins while the shark is still alive and tossing the bleeding shark back into the water. He is confident the law will be upheld. This law was about protecting against animal cruelty, conserving our states resources and protecting public health.
