i'm frank mallicoat. >> i'm michelle griego. kpix 5's cate caugiran joins us live from outside the suspect's home. police were back in the neighborhood? >> reporter: yes. this is the suspect's home. we saw police officers here walking around the area and we asked them what exactly they were looking for. they just shook their heads and declined to comment. this is also where the officers took the suspect away last night. he is raymond iwase a man unknown to his neighbors until now. he lived in this daly city neighborhood all his life but never knew, met or heard of suspect 84-year-old raymond iwase until last night when he saw him in handcuffs. >> it was like a s.w.a.t. team out in front of his house and there was detectives in suits down the street. it looked like there was going to be a shootout. >> reporter: iwase in the san mateo county jail booked on suspicion of attempted murder after police say he allegedly fired a shot inside the serramonte medical center wednesday afternoon. >> i'm scared. a lot of police here. >> prayed for protection when i left this morning so i'm okay. >> reporter: patients and employees here just looking to get back to normal. >> i'm irritated because of all the traffic. but, uhm, no, i'm not nervous. >> reporter: you're okay? >> yeah, i'm okay. >> reporter: because yesterday was anything but that. the shooting prompted a massive evacuation. doctors and patients were told to keep their hands on their heads as they exited the building. >> reporter: what happened? >> witnesses say iwase was targeting dr. kevin wong an internist at the center. >> the doctor saw the man with the gun and ran out and the shooting was behind him but luckily it missed him. >> reporter: witnesses say wong knew the shooter and said he was a former disgruntled patient. officers did an extensive four- hour search before they realized he wasn't there. that's because iwase was at home where last night police later found a gun and more ammunition. live in daly city, cate caugiran, kpix 5. >> we tried to contact raymond iwase at the san mateo jail but he didn't want to speak with reporters. what is old is new again. candlestick will soon be torn down but not before getting a historic serenade from one of the fab four. paul mccartney said we can work it out and he did. he picked the rundown stick over the 49ers' brand-new levi stadium for his upcoming summer concert putting to rest a controversy between san francisco and santa clara. >> ladies and gentlemen, the beatles! possible levi stadium gig. but history prevailed and sir paul will say so long inside the hallowed cement walls of the stick. >> i think it's pretty class act for him to do that. >> and i would agree. the 9ers issued this statement here. we're excited to hear that paul mccartney will play the final concert ever at candlestick park. it will be a great event for the bay area and we are pleased to provide support in any way we can." by the way, my brother mark was at that final beatles concert at the stick in '66. i actually have the ticket stub as a keepsake and mike sugerman is going to chat with him. you will see that coming up tonight at 5:00. new at noon a man claiming to be the biological father of teen suicide victim audrey potts -- the lawsuit is against the boy's parents for monetary damages. michael says the teen girl's legal parents are claiming to be her sole heirs and just minutes ago the lawyer representing the pott family released a statement calling the new lawsuit frivolous and a stunt. oakland police have arrested two suspects in the 2013 murder of judy salmon killed for trying to be a good samaritan. the popular pet sitter was driving home last july and took cell phone pictures. the suspects shot her. the two men are charged with special circumstances murder. a man has second-degree burns this morning after a fire ripped through an apartment near san jose state university last night. kiet do reports it was the man's roommate who caused the fire. >> reporter: yes. we have all heard a lot about distracted driving and distracted walking but this is new distracted candle lighting. that's what san jose fire department says happened here at this apartment building on the 400 block of 8th street. this is near san jose state. the fire department says the resident was striking a match while on the phone. and then tossed the match on a couch. he then went outside to continue to talk on the phone and that's when he saw the smoke and flames shooting out of building. instead of going back in to warn his roommate, he called the roommate on the phone. by that time the other roommate was trapped by the flames and had to make a dramatic escape. >> it was reported that the person that did sustain the burns did run through the fire. and he did have some significant second-degree burns. >> i saw one guy probably three minutes after i stepped out. he just sprinted outside out of the burning fire. i saw a little flames on his back. i hope he's all right. >> reporter: smoke and water damaged three other units. 11 people were displaced by the fire. the red cross is helping to find them a place to stay overnight. in downtown san jose, kiet do, kpix 5. san francisco's city attorney is getting involved in the city's housing crisis accusing two property owners evicting tenants by illegally converting into hotels. illegal short term rental conversions are contributing to the housing problem. san francisco bans residential rentals of less than 30 days without the proper permits. three american doctors were killed this morning by an afghan security guard at a kabul hospital. police say a security guard shot and killed a doctor and a father and son visiting the hospital. the guard on duty to protect the staff suddenly started shooting at doctors and patients. he had worked at the children's hospital for two years. >> the police arrested the attacker. so we will investigate to find out the motive behind this attack. >> attacks on foreigners are on the rise since the beginning of the year and as afghans have selected a new president. russia's defense minister announced new military exercises in his country. ukranian troops moved against pro-russians in the east. at least two people were killed in clashes at checkpoints. the situation is threatening to overshadow president obama trip in japan. during a news conference today the president said he is on the verge of ordering new economic sanctions against russia. it wasn't dynamic duo. they are the leading three- point team for the warriors ever in history. they won that game but now let's fast forward to game 2 this past monday. you know what? you're looking at some highlights. i don't even want to talk about it. warriors lost that game. so now they come back home to oakland where we have the best fans in nba history. in fact, you look around town and all you're seeing is a lot of blue and gold all over the place. even the tribune building lit up adorned in beautiful colors. back now to oracle arena and i have to gig a shoutout to youth developments of hunters point. they put these out for warriors. they say loud proud warriors. that is the slogan for this year's nba play-off action here. i got to tell you the warriors have sold out 41 consecutive other bay area headlines, a big push out of santa clara county to rid the county of hepatitis "b." the help b free campaign encourages people to get free testing at the northeast medical clinic on lundy avenue. once people are aware, they can get treated. one in 10 asian pacific islanders is chronically infected with hepatitis "b" worldwide. it's been three weeks since the century 21 theater dome in san jose closed and on tuesday it won a small victory. it's now eligible to be considered for the national historic register. it's the last of its kind in california and the last movie showing was packed but in a hearing this week the owners stood by the decision to close it. >> where were those audiences over the last number of years? if everyone continues to be so interested in going to that theater, i think we would have seen that over the decades. but we we saw was the opposite. >> the national park service will now consider the historic recommendation. the service has the final [ laughter ] >> somehow i don't feel bad for you just coming back from hawaii. >> but you know, yeah, we have a nice spring storm headed our way. could get interesting especially tomorrow. clouds beginning to fill out skies now as we take you out the door and indeed, we have mostly cloudy skies around the bay area. hi-def doppler showing you some of that moisture that is beginning to make its way in although no rain just yet. you have to head up far to the north right now. we are seeing scattered light showers up towards eureka and redding. but that's it so far. that will likely change though toward tonight and tomorrow. lots of clouds over san francisco and much of the bay area right now. temperatures though very mild and a little muggy. 66 degrees in santa rosa. it is 60 in san francisco. 64 in san jose. and 62 degrees in oakland. this afternoon, a lot of clouds will be thickening up outside. it doesn't look like it's going to rain just yet but then tonight cloudy skies showers a real possibility. and showers a possibility tomorrow and the possibility of an isolated thunderstorm or two, as well. as you're going to see some unstable air overhead. high pressure getting out of the way now. a lot of this energy headed up to the pacific northwest. we are going to catch the southern end of this cold front as it moves on through. so yeah, looks like it could be a little bit wet. the further north you go the better chance you have of rain today. 69 showers into redding. the high country could get interesting in the next 24 hours. in fact a winter weather advisory going up there. we could see 5 to 10" of snow in the high country. snow level about 7,000 feet. and, of course, this storm system working its way through a lot of clouds early on but look what happens tomorrow morning. got a chance of a few scattered showers for the commute. then as we head through the day the core of low going to rotate through. a better chance of more scattered showers and maybe a thunderstorm and then as we head in towards saturday, we start to clear out your skies and looks like the temperatures warming up a little bit. numbers going to be in the 50s and the 60s coastside. 60s and 70s inland. sunset tonight 7:54. sunrise tomorrow 6:21. the next couple of days we are going to see some unsettled weather spring storm coming our way! and saturday dry, a slight chance of showers on sunday. but look at next week!! when we come back to work, it's gorgeous! >> what's up with that? >> we have a lot of things going on. we have the dream machines at half moon bay so we would like it to be dry there but there's a slight chance of showers early. >> thank you. a bay area high schooler makes giving to those in need a priority. we'll introduce you to this week's jefferson award winner. ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, at their school. officials at the elementary school in greeley say a tenr some fourth graders in colorado have been accused of selling and trading marijuana at school. officials at the elementary school in greeley say a 10-year- old brought a small bag of pot and sold it to three other students then the next day one of those kids gave the initial pot-dealing boy a marijuana edible. the students got pot and the edibles from family members. >> unfortunately, in both cases, the students got the marijuana from their grandparents, were not with consent. the grandparents didn't know they took it. >> greeley police won't file charges against the grandparents. marijuana is legal in colorado. they were turned in by another kid. all will be punished. two were suspended. how much would give to help a homeless person? sharon chin introduces us to one teenager who is quiet and shy but her actions speak volumes when it comes to compassion. >> reporter: in the heart of the jungle, san jose's largest homeless tent city. >> thank you, sweetie. >> reporter: brittany bates brings more than food and watered. alongside pastor scott of chan delivers ministry. >> i call her the next mother teresa, a cute mother teresa with a heart of gold. >> reporter: we saw her generosity firsthand. >> oh, thank you. [ crying ] . >> this young lady here is awesome, y'all. >> reporter: brittany gave tina a homeless woman the last $200 she said she needed to rent her own place. >> i thought that maybe i can give her some money like my birthday money and not have a party. >> she's a good girl. thank you so much.
