off tonight talking to voters who believe that lawmakers aren't doing enough to help the middle class. >> reporter: las vegas mortgage broker joan weber says the economy is not working for her or her customers hunting for home loans. >> the majority of people that are coming in today how we more credit card debt than they did four or five years ago. and we tell them, you don't qualify, because you have too much debt. >> reporter: webber, a republican, says the stubbornly high cost of living means our company processes fewer mortgage applications. >> the last two years have been the worst years of our ten years. i do cancel my health care two years ago because it was $1700 a month. that's almost as much as my mortgage playmate. >> reporter: while inflation is off the highs of 2022, monthly items have continued to soar. rent was up 26.2% last year, auto insurance skyrocketed 20% and dining out jumped 5.2%. if you were to describe the economy right now in one word, how would you describe it? >> painful.
