ago. most of the commissions today are independent commissions. as you can see back in 2011 there were only 8 of them. now slightly a plurality of them are independent rather than republican. jane, how does that impact the potential for a red wave in 2022? >> you know, i think republicans still control quite a lot. you can see on the screen. they're going to control a lot more of this than democrats n. no small part because democratic voters have embraced these independent commission, put their map-drawing process in the hands of independent commissions, at least in some states. that's not to say they don't gerrymander. we do, we see maryland districts. but it is the big difference between how much they control. republicans can move the dial a couple of percents in a lot of districts and retake congress without really leaving those back rooms is where gerrymandering happens. we can't forget that republicans are in the state legislatures affecting who can get to the
