People with the policy, then cleric living in the u. S. And youre not going to have a deliver him back to turkey for democracy. You are not checking out of the process because you didnt millions of dollars. Was it a quid pro quo . Like the outcome of the election. Well start with roy moore no way. Im all in. Me too. And that controversy surrounding im all in. Yeah. Him. Today republicans in d. C. And they really are all in, katyy alabama are demanding whether and the take aconvey i got from allegations in the washington this was they were saying they post of molestation against the have to turn anger and Alabama Senate frontrunner are disappointment into action and never take anything for granted a disqualifier for public again when it comes to politics. Office . Senator mike lee of utah endorsed moore in the primary. No doubt about that. Thank you very much. Good to see you as always. Today nbc news has confirmed he and lets bring in robert draper, a contributing writer has asked Moores Campaign to for the New York Times remove him from all fundraising magazine who wrote about the pitches. Post obama democratic party. A number of republicans say moore must go if, if, if, if the so the democrats, did they allegations are true. Become too obama centric . However, only a few say the i mean, and fail to plan and allegations in and of themselves are enough to warrant moore predict for its future . Yeah. Stepping down. Katy, i think a couple of nbc news has not verified the accusations. Things. First, as scott peters, a also the women who allege the congressman from california told sexual encounter did not the me, i think we got a little bit woman who alleges the one sexual lazy, a little bit reliant on this car i see matic figure at the top of the party ticket and encounter did not file a Police People in the meantime sort of report and has not filed a civil lost touch of who the democratic suit. The campaign issued a statement party was. A lot of the party institution that attacks the allegations. Interestingly, though, the campaign does not in itself deny sort of suffered under the obama the allegations. Presidency in no small measure instead, it quotes moores due to the fact that incompetent president obama never really saw himself as a party creature, a denial without embracing it. Creature of the democratic party, built institution that quote, this garbage is fake news were parallel to the dnc and the and intentional defamation. Moore called the allegations by d. C. Ccc that served his interest, but not necessarily the post completely false and those of the democrats down ballot. So, yeah, i think theyve got a a desperate political attack. Reports and analyses from alabama and washington. Bit of an identity crisis, but having said that, they had an lets start, though, with nbcs identity crisis throughout obama Gabe Gutierrez in alabama. Tenure. Down the ballot Something Like i understand moore is still 1,100 state legislature seats expected to go to a veterans day were lost. Theres only 15 gofrsz who were function tomorrow. Are people in alabama embracing democrats. Him still or are they finding they dont have majority in either the house or the senate. This to be a little too much . Sa, yeah, theyve got their work cut out for them. There are lots of new i think hi, katy, good afternoon. Lingers, new rumors, whispers the people we spoke to here in out there about joe buy did he know potentially seeking another potential nomination. Hes run before in 1998 and in are sticking by him. They do not believe the 2008. He too wide with it again in allegations. They think this is a political witch hunt and they dont have the dont think highly of the 2016. What do you think of him running in 2020 . National media and the is that the best democrats can do right now . Washington post, so theyre choosing simply not to believe i dont think so. The allegations. I think Vice President buy did the courthouse is where the main he knows up sides are his down accuser told the washington sides, that he has a lot of post she met roy moore almost sperchts but also were all too familiar with him. 40 years ago. That hes very comfortable on today msnbc spoke with the former Campaign Chair for the stump but also ray bit undisciplined, tends to go on and on isnt that going to be a alabama, mr. Hooper. Benefit for him, though, heres what he had to say in considering who he may go response to these allegations. Against. Donald trump is not disciplined, but everybody called that i do not believe the women. Authentic. Up to a point thats right. But its one thing to sort of say whatever is on your mind and be cavalier and another thing to i dont know exactly because say in 50 minutes what you i saw the same thing, sam should be able to confine to 20 minutes. Accusations made when president ver bossty has been vice trump was running. President buy dens weakness i dont like to see it. More than anything else. When i talk to democrats theyre i think its false, but one way to get down to it is just of the belief theres no uniformty on who should be the candidate and of course its require them to take a polygraph early yet, but to the extent test. That there is uniformty, its we should find someone outside the reporter now, theres been a series of gop officials that box. Do you think it should be have been quoted over the last somebody cleatel different. Yeah. Several hours standing by roy it can be someone who has no moore. Experience in politics. That now is the template that President Trump has provided us marin county share david hall with. Said other than being with an it could be a howard schultz, underage person, he didnt the coo of starbucks. Really force himself, unquote. Zuckerberg, someone from the military or it could be not someone there are about a dozen at least, maybe fort or so state auditor, take joseph and Democratic Senators who would love to run, but it may well be mary, mary was a teenager and someone from the Lower Chamber joseph was a carpenter and they like seth monthly den or tell usy gab barred. So i think its wide open at became parents of jesus. This point. But my suspicion just based on state auditor says humphrey the zbliet gooigs of the country is its going to be somebody bogart and lauren bacall, she was a teenager they finally got knew, somebody with whom were married. Not all familiar. I think its going to be so interesting when we look back and you cant be a victim 40 after the election in 2020 and years later n my opinion. Look back at these conversation and see what in the world we katy, certainly some very were thinking three years out. Questionable quotes there from robert draper, thank you very some gop officials. Much. Appreciate your time. Again, this is something that sure. And tune in today this monday for an exclusive morning show event with, you guessed it, vice people here in gadsen, alabama, president jie buy did he know. Thats beginning at 7 00 a. M. Support him. Eastern. Some weve spoken to offcamera say they dont see the issue with an older mandating a younger woman. That happens here. I tell them, this was a 14yearold, according to the allegations. They fall back on it saying they dont believe it. A 14yearold is not a woman, shes a girl. Lauren bacall was 19 when they met. Still young but not 14 years old. So thats the idea. What do you think . Reporter absolutely. And the age of consent an accused pedophile than a hate to play devils advocate but. I kind of feel like its a game changer. Democrat reporter well, the age of i wouldnt go that far. Consent, as you know, in alabama are you there . Hes probably on mute. Yeah. Was and is 16 years old. Gary wont like it. Why . Because hes gary. When you ask the voters phone ringing this is still 14. What . Keep going yeah. Two years younger than 16. Reporter that is very true, laughs voice on phone its not millennial enough. Katy. The voters here what they there are a lot of ways to say no. Repeatedly will say is they do thank you so much. Thank you not believe the allegations. So were doing it. Yes theyre waiting for more we got a yes start saying yes to your companys best ideas. Information to come out but they let us help with money and knowhow, just dont believe what they see so you can get business done. As an attack by the National American express open. Media and the democrats. So, roy moore is expected or is scheduled to be at an event here locally tomorrow at a Public Library honoring veterans day. Hes not been seen since these allegations broke. As you pointed out in the intro, his campaign is firing back, saying he will stay in this race. Now, this race, the special election is scheduled for december 12th. And its too late to remove him from the ballot if republicans were to want to replace him. It would have to be a writein candidate. Discussions happening now whether that might happen. Local gop officials, several we have quoted over the last 24 hours or so, they say they are sticking by roy moore and they believe this is just a series of eight hundred dollars when wet attacks. Different than what were switched our auto and home insurance. Hearing from some republicans with liberty, we could afford over on capitol hill, who are a real babysitter instead of your brother. Urging him to step down if the hey. Oh. Thats my robe. Allegations are true. Katy . Gabe gutierrez in alabama. Is it . You could save seven hundred eighty two dollars when liberty stands with you. Good luck down there. Liberty mutual insurance. Thank you very much. Lets make one simple clarification. The Washington Post didnt go down to seek out dirt on roy moore. The Washington Post said it went down to do interviews with roy moore supporters and were directed to this. I think thats important to remember. Garrett haake is at the capitol. What more can you tell us about the gop reaction there . Were getting a lot of if trues about them. Reporter yesterday when this came out republican lawmakers moved with rare speed to put some distance between themselves and roy moore. Most republican senators backed Luther Strange before moore became the nominee, so theres not a lot of love lost here in the first place. As you pointed out, almost all of those senators provided this caveat of if this can somehow be proven to be true, they would want moore to step aside. Its tough to get them to give a straight answer on what would be sufficient proof. We heard similar language from the white house who after the time delay, of course, being in asia, came out with a statement this morning. Sarah Huckabee Sanders saying in part, the president believes we cannot allow a mere allegation, in this case one from many years ago, to destroy a persons life. The statement continues, however, the president also believes that if these allegations are true, judge moore will do the right thing and step aside. Katy, theres some irony that one of the strongest statements of condemnation of moore came from timberwolves romney, the previous republican nominee to be president of the United States. He tweeted this afternoon, innocent until Proven Guilty is for criminal convictions, not elections. I believe Leigh Corfman, she being the woman who was 14 when this allegedly occurred. Her account is too serious to ignore. Moore is unfit for office and should step aside. Katy, there seems to be a sort of delay here. Were on a holiday weekend. I get the sense that some republican lawmakers would like to see moore dot right thing and see this go away on his own by stepping aside. Some lawmakers are speaking out and suggesting if moore doesnt do this on his own or clear this up in some credible way in a hurry, they might put more pressure on him. Peter king was on msnbc earlier today and said as much. Take a listen. Ordinarily person entitled to the presumption of innocence but in this case the charge is so serious and the fact it was backed up by other women and so hideous, i would say unless he can prove his innocence, the burden is on him within the next day or so, i believe he has to step down. Reporter so, katy, well see these lawmakers back here on monday when they all expect to get pressed much more aggressively about this if roy moore is still staying in the race. Thank you very much. Rick tyler is conservative strategist and msnbc analyst, ken vogel, and josh smoon a Political Columnist with the alabama political reporter. Rick, i want to ask you a simple question. The Washington Post interviewed 30 sources for this story. Republicans are saying, if true. What are they expecting to happen . Theres criminal case here. How are they expecting to get more information on this before roy moore goes up for election on december 12th . I think the republicans came out and were following a set of talking points that perhaps werent well thought out. As you point out, there will be no criminal case. Its well beyond the statute of limitations. You have to read the story and see if you believe the women or not. I read the story three times. You have three credible reporters who interviewed 30 witnesses and four people went on record. I think thats important. And judge moore has got to determine whether he wants to sink this Republican Party. And he will sink it. I think this is unrecoverable if they send a known pedophile to the next senator from alabama that is going to bleed over into every election in 2018. And if 2017 was the receding waters, 2018 will be the tsunami. What does it say about your party that they would choose a pedophile over your democrat alleged pedophile over a democrat . Its repugnant. The Republican Party is just completely i wouldnt have believed that i would have been here two years ago where we have a president that cant tell the truth, doesnt seem to be able to distinguish what the truth is and now were going to look at Something Like roy moore remember, this is in a long series of utterances by roy moore. This isnt a long allegation that he lived a perfect life and this is out of character for him. So, i think a party has to stand for something. Republican party has stood for values and moral values and thats been an attracting force to the Republican Party. If they lose that, they will lose their way and they will have nothing to stand on. Rick, are you still a republican, considering all the ways in which the republican i like the way youre call Nicolle Wallace put it yesterday, a nonpracticing republican. Look, i dont want to the problem is if everyone everyone would like me would leave the Republican Party, what are they left with . Thats what i worry about. I dont identify with the democratic platform. And being an independent means i dont get to choose the primary candidates. Thats where we are. Roy moore was chosen in a primary. I dont want to give up the opportunity to do that. At in virginia i can choose either ballot. A lot of people dont have that choice in their state. I read your oped in the alabama political reporter, and it was scathing, to say the least. You talk about whether or not there is a muddy bottom for the alabama Republican Party. Maybe there is no rock bottom for the alabama Republican Party, maybe just the mushy mud on the bottom of the river and they keep burrowing deeper into the muck and filth. But what really caught my eye that said, a couple of county chairman said that even if they had hard evidence that moore did commit sexual assault, this is jerry pough and william blocker, even if they had proof, that they would still vote for him over the democrat. Stunning, right . I dont what do you say to is that . The only thing you can do is what i do typically. Shake my hand and walk away. I dont even know what to say to that. What do you make of your state, the politics in your state . We have really dumbed this thing down. In one election cycle weve had the governor go out of here on criminal charges. Weve had the House Speaker go out of here on criminal charges. Weave had roy moore himself be booted from the Supreme Court bench for the second time and now we have this. And these people are still going to elect him if given the opportunity. You know, doug jones is going to make some noise in this race, but trust me, ive been around alabama for a while. Theyre going to elect this guy and send him to the u. S. Senate if given the opportunity to do so. Why do voters hate democrats so much down there that they think this would be a better option . Why dont they like other republicans, i guess . You take it away. Its really like to have conversations with people around here, its really as though they believe this is a game and that theres a scoreboard and to win this game, you have to your team has to put up more points. You have to win more elections. And its about necessarily who best represents me or my values or can better my life in some way. Its about we have chosen this side. Theyve done it over a variety of mostly, you know, social issues, evangelical type stuff, and thats what theyre basing in voting on. And roy moore fits a certain style that is popular here because he waves the bible around a whole lot and people gravitate towards that. Ziegler today of alabama, i guess, compared it to jesus im sorry, to joseph and mary and the bitter of jesus. I was under the impression from reading the bible and the bible study classes i went to when i was a kid, it was immaculate conception, they didnt have sex, they didnt have a physical relationship like that. You know, they call her the virgin mary for a reason. You know, but this is jim ziegler. If youve been in this state, this is the state auditor. Name the state auditor from any other state . He has somehow managed to insert himself into every single controversy for the entirety of his life in office. This is a guy who let us search for a desk that was mentioned during the governors affair. That they had to move this desk so they could consummate the affair. He went in search of the desk. This is who were talking about. Steve bannon is the one that backed roy moore over Luther Strange. Donald trump initially backed Luther Strange and went over to back moore when he won the primary. Steve bannon spoke about this last night. Let me play you what he said. The bezos amazon Washington Post that dropped that dime on donald trump is the same bezos amazon Washington Post that dropped the dime this afternoon on judge roy moore. Now, is that a coincidence . Thats what i mean when i say opposition party. What does this mean for steve bannon going forward, ken . Well, i mean, i think its a blow to him if roy moore loses but thats a big if, as weve heard from the people that have spoken out in alabama, both public officials, Republican Party officials as well as just just regular voters. They seem to be republican voters. They seem to be willing to put politics over these very serious charges. And that way i think this has become something of a referendum on this rising debate on victims. And these victims and victims more generally in this rising debate were having about Sexual Misconduct. You know, you see some of these folks who come out and say, you know, very clearly that theyre on the side of roy moore and they dont believe the victims. Then you see sort of a more somewhat more nuanced position but coming out against the victims. Thats if true classifications of responses were seeing from so many republicans in washington. I mean, we have on the record allegations from these women. What are they waiting for . It seems like that is that is continuing to take this position that victims generally and in this case specifically are not to be believed on their face when they make these types of allegations. And that, i think, is sort of a troubling scenario we find ourselves in. Not only the one woman who said she was this happened when she was 14 but also other women who said he tried to date them when they were quite young. The Washington Post had 30 sources for this story. Quickly, what does this mean for donald trump and steve bannon . Its very personal for donald trump because he also has been accused. And he was, obviously, as we now know, as bannon mentioned, he was captured on audiotape saying things that amount to could be interpreted as amounting to sexual assault. So, when the white house admitting to sexual assault. Could amount to admitting to sexual assault. Yes, thats an important point. But when the white house comes out and says they dont think one allegation should run a persons life, its almost as if they are speaking from the perspective of donald trump personally and any allegations that have been made or that could be made against him. This has sort of changed the way these potentially careerending things in mriltsz, these potentially careerending allegations are maybe not so careerending anymore. Ken vogel, rick tyler, josh moon, thank you. Federal investigators are looking into whether former National Security adviser Michael Flynn met with turkey officials to carry out their wishes after he was appointed National Security adviser in the white house. Details on that story coming up. More on the lawmaker ensnared in the russia probe. After news Sexual Misconduct allegations surfaced against him. Well look at why hollywood and big corporations are moving to erase themselves from this scandal. Tais really quite simple. Est it comes in the mail, you pull out the tube and you spit in it, which is something southern girls are taught youre not supposed to do. You seal it and send it back and then you wait for your results. Its that simple. When i was too busy with the kids to get a repair estimate. I just snapped a photo and got an estimate in 24 hours. My Insurance Company definitely doesnt have that. You can leave worry behind when liberty stands with youâ„¢ Liberty Mutual insurance. From Robert Muellers russia probe including a possible deal between former National Security adviser Michael Flynn and senior turkish officials. Multiple people familiar with the investigation tell nbc news they are examining a potential arrangement where flynn would be paid to carry out directives secretly while in the white house. This comes on a day when there is speculation that President Trump, who is in vietnam, would meet with vladimir putin. A meeting that does not appear to have happened. Lets bring in nbcs carol lee, and joel ruben, former secretary of state under president obama. Carol, its your reporting, so we should start with you. Theres new reporting out that there might have been meeting between a congressman, dana rohrabacher, who has been sympathetic to russia. Our colleague is reporting special counsel is looking into a meeting during the campaign in september of 2016 between flynn and the congressman who, as you know, is has pushed for better relations with russia. We dont know exactly what the meeting entailed but we do know thats under scrutiny and the significance of that, in part, is this is the first time weve learned a congressman has somehow been brought into the investigation. And now bring us up to speed on your reporting about what mueller is looking into when it comes to Michael Flynn and a meeting he may have had with some turkish officials about trying to smuggle the muslim cleric, gulen, outside of the country and returning him back to turkey, erdogan, president erdogan still wants gulen because he thinks he was responsible for the coup that almost unseated him. Right. Erdogan has had an obsession with this cleric. Were reporting that the special counsel is looking into whether this was this deal, not just for him but for also also involving a man who is considered an ally of president erdogan who is jailed in the u. S. Under charges of helping iran skirt u. S. Sanctions, the discussions that that what bob mueller is looking into is whether those discussions included an exchange for 15 million if flynn was able to facilitate not just the return of gulen but the dropping of the charges of this other man. In the meeting that hes looking into allegedly took place at the 21 Club Restaurant in new york, which you know very well is not that far from trump tower. Also where donald trump had one of his first dinners after he was elected. Right, right. That was a bit of a scandal. Anyway, go on, carol. So, thats the significance of this is that, you know, these it takes the investigation into a whole new realm. You know, these if true, these are very would be very serious charges. Obviously, you know, Michael Flynn had a top security clearance. He had access to all kinds of information. He was inside the white house. He was serving as the president s National Security adviser. You know, even and its going to be very hard for the president to distance himself from Michael Flynn the way weve seen him do that with others. Joel, help us explain why this is so significant, why this is so important. Well, katy, the idea that an incoming senior National Security official would sell his office, an office representing all of us, for personal financial gain is its treasonist behavior and needs to be called as such. If this is true, then what this would essentially mean is that he would personally benefited because of his official duties. And we have to be very clear that all of us who have served served at the state department, i served overseas in the peace corps, all of us who served took an oath to the constitution to protect and defend it, to represent the United States well. And this would be the opposite of that. And it is deeply undermining for americas ability to have confidence in our National Security leadership. What does it mean for donald trump . Well, for donald trump, the closer it disconnects, the worse. We also have to remember that this transition period was very tumultuous. There was a lot of activity behind the scenes by the Trump Transition Team that was essentially undermining president obamas Foreign Policy at the united nations, in private meetings. There was a lot happening at that time. And if there is a connection with Trump Officials and transition officials related to russia, bob mueller is certainly going to get to the bottom of that. That could very well fit within this frame of what deals were the Transition Team officials making when foreign entities and others during that period, agreements that they would take with them into the white house . Carol, steve bannon in an interview with its a steve bannon sort of day where we have reaction from him to just about everything. He sat down with Jeremy Peters at the New York Times and heres what he had to say about this. I think the collusion thing, ive said from day one, is a joke. I was there. We couldnt collude. We had a tough time colluding between the Trump Campaign and rnc. Colluding, im sorry, between campaign and russians. Not necessarily about this report about flynn. But, carol, steve bannon, one of the closest people in Donald Trumps orbit at the end of the campaign, certainly for much of the first part of the administration, and he is still adamant that this was a campaign that just didnt know what it was doing so theres no possible way they could have done anything as egregious as collude. Yeah. Weve seen the Trump Officials and people in trumps orbit use this excuse time and time again. You know, that they were disorganized, how could they even collude. You know that very well may turn out to be true. We just dont know. But the what we do know is that this investigation is proceeding very methodically, very carefully. And were learning more and more about it every day. And its not its about, you know, collusion with russia but its also about, you know, what various people who were on the campaign and Michael Flynn, obviously, in the white house were doing in terms of engaging foreign governments. Whether its turkey or ukraine or russia. And so, you know, the collusion piece is one aspect. And its just, you know, too soon for anybody to say whether or not thats actually going to be proven. Robert mueller is investigating. Well see what he comes up with. Not a moment sooner, i presume. Carol lee, joel ruben, thank you very much. Thank you. Thank you. And comedian and actor louis c. K. Has just responded to accusations of Sexual Misconduct. Here is his statement. I want to address the stories told to the New York Times by five women named aby, rebecca, julia, julia and one who felt she couldnt name herself. These stories are untrue. What i did was okay because i never showed a woman my blank without asking first, which is also true. But what i learned later in life, too late, is that when you have power over another person asking them to look at your blank isnt a question. Its a predicament for them. The power i had over these women is that they admired me and i wielded that power irresponsibly. I have been remorseful of my actions and ive tried to learn from them and run from them. Now im aware of the extent of the impact of my actions. I learned yesterday the extent to which i left these women who admired me feeling badly about themselves and cautious around other men who would never have put them in that position. I also took advantage of the fact that i was widely admired in my and their community which disabled them from sharing their story and brought hardship to them when they tried because people who look up to me didnt want to hear it. I didnt think i was doing any of that because my position allowed me not to think about it. There is nothing about this that i forgive myself for and i have to reconcile it with who i am, which is nothing compared to the task i left them with. I wish i had reacted to their admiration of me by being a good example to them as a man and given them some guidance as a comedian including because i admired their work. The hardest regret to live with is what youve done to hurt someone else. I can hardly wrap my head around the scope of the hurt i brought on them. Id be remiss to exclude the hurt that i brought on the people i work with and have worked with whose professional and personal lives have been impacted by all of this. Including projects currently in production, the cast and crew of better things, baskets, the cops, one mississippi and i love you daddy. I deeply regret this has brought negative attention to my manager, who only tried to mediate a situation that i caused. I brought anguish and hardship to the people at fx, who have given me so much, the orchard who took a chance on my movie. And every other entity that has bet on me through the years. I brought pain to my family, my friends, my children and their mother. I have spent my long and lucky career talking and saying anything i want. I will now step back and take a long time to listen. Thank you for reading. That, a statement from louis c. K. According to a New York Times report, five women have accused the comedian of either masturbating in front of them or engaging in other Sexual Misconduct involving master base bags. After the times published their report, netflix removed them. His new film i love you, daddy has also been scrapped as netflix announced they will not promote a planned louis c. K. Special saying, the allegations made by several women in the New York Times about louis c. K. s behavior are disturbing. Louiss unprofessional with female colleagues has led us to decide not to produce a second standup special as had been planned. Two years earlier, Megan Keister says she was told to stop asking questions about rumors of Sexual Misconduct by louis c. K. By the coo of the just for laughs festival. In an email statement to vice in 2015, hills responded, my intent was to keep our awards ceremony as a celebratory event. If ms. Koester wanted talent to comment on the record, we would hope she go through the proper journalistic protocols, be forthcoming with her intentions and request a full interview. Lets bring in comedian and writer megan koester. I just read that louis c. K. Statement in full. Hes taking full responsibility for what he did. He is apologizing profusely. He is not offering any any excuse for what he did. And hes saying that hes going to take a lot of time to really think about this. Do you think that that statement what do you think of that statement . I think its contrite, sincere and what he should have said years ago before this story became such a huge issue. This is the first its the first person whos been accused who has come out with something that has gone that far, that has been, i think, that contrite. Sure. I mean, i suppose its a testament to the mans character, but that also doesnt necessarily negate the fact that his ignoring the situation for many years is what turned this into such a huge fracas in the first place. I mean, listen, you brought it you tried to bring it to light when you went to that festival and you were asking a number of comedians. Why dont you think that that moment, where you were bringing it up, where you were trying to expose it, illicited a response of that nature that we just heard just then . I dont think its that necessarily louis was in the other room you dont think he was told about it . Well, telling, you know, the c. O. O. Of just for laughs to silence me or anything. No, im not saying that. Im just saying, dont you think the c. O. O. Would have mentioned, we had a reporter asking around about this, that and the other . Yeah. Im just saying what happened to me is indicative of the culture at large and that its not that he necessarily asked these people to cover up for him. Its just that, i mean, you know, people in power have people in power around them that facilitate all of this and keep everything under the rug, which is why it never comes out until it reaches a critical mass, which is what it did with the New York Times article. You said that experience when you were just trying to ask some comedians questions on a red carpet and you were admonished and told not to made you cry. Explain. Yeah. I mean, maybe because im too enthetic to be a journalist . Its the same reason why i stopped pursuing the story because people didnt want to speak on the record at the time. Its only become okay for women to speak on the record since womens victimhood is trending, which i have my own grievances with. Well, explain. Well, i i resented the fact that a statute of limitations has to pass in order for these people to be called out. I resent the fact that people who are doing awful things now arent being called out. The things that happened with louis, the last time he did it was maybe ten years ago. Same with cosby, et cetera, et cetera. Its only after many years have passed that its okay to call these people out. Im i love the fact that people are starting to get sort of dragged, but i would appreciate it if we started working in the now and, you know, sort of what am i trying to say . But you know what i mean . I mean, why why do why did it take so long . Why did it take so long, exactly. And what is happening now and is nobody coming forward . I presume thats what youre trying to get at. Thats exactly what im trying to say. If were talking about what happened in the past, what did the Warner Brothers do, i mean, the literal Warner Brothers. If were going to talk about people who are irrelevant i mean, the whole thing wrankles my chain. Go ahead. I was just going to say yeah, go on. What do you think of the people who have helped keep this all under the rug, people like david becke, who we heard in louis c. K. s statement, he feels bad putting him in that position. What do you think when he says he didnt act in a threatening nature to anybody, i believe him. Its also i mean, louis basically addressed this in the statement. Just because youre not necessarily overtly threatening somebody, if youre in a position of power over them, just by committing an action like what louis did or by telling a victim not to talk, even if you do it nice, even if you say, hey, sweetie, can you not talk about it, youre still acting in a threatening manner and youre intimidating them into silence. This was, i guess, another one of those open secrets. I was just talking to somebody i know who said, yeah, theyve heard about these things for years. Yeah. You tried to talk about this in 2015. Are there a lot of other open secrets around that are going to come out soon . I mean, yes, but the question as to whether or not they come out soon is relative to how many people come forward. Unfortunately, the onus always on the victim in situations like this. And the more the better its not good enough that it just happens to one woman. We need at least three, you know. Exactly. Megan koester, thank you for joining us. Joining me is professor of psychology at ucberkeley, daker, and nbc legal contributor katie fang. We just read it, louis c. K. Coming out with a lengthy statement. Do you think that that is going to change the way people respond to these allegations . Do you think he should be given credit for giving a fullsome answer, fulsome response and coming clean to everything he did . I think he deserves credit. I think hes already apologized from some of his accusers via text, via Facebook Messenger and voice mail. What megan said, its a situational abuse of power but also who you noted is true. Who are the enablers, who are the people that are complicit and if they continue to fund that, if they continue to muzzle people from coming forward, youre not going to have people be this fulsome, earnest and perhaps sincere about what theyve done. Decker, for 25 years youve studied people in power and preying on those in vulnerable positions. How does power transform a persons behavior . Its regrettable how reliable this is, isnt it . What we know from scientific studies is if you give any human being a little bit of power, which we see in the weinstein and louis c. K. Cases and others, historically they are vulnerable to empathy deficit. They dont realize, men in positions of power, how theyre offending people, how they make people repulsed and anxious and they think the other young women around them are attracted, they misperceive the cues of anxiety and concern. And then the second thing, and this has been known for centuries, is that when we feel powerful and were not thinking carefully about other people, we are prone to every imaginable kind of impulsive behavior. Were more risky with money, we swear at people. And in these particular cases, we express really inappropriate sexual behavior. Those are reliable tendencies. When you put those tendencies into play, in maledominant cultures, hollywood directors and the like, you get a lot of trouble. People think theyre invincible when they get into those positions. Yeah. A colleague of mine just tweeted something, which i think is relevant to read. Clearing the loews of bars to issue the thoughtful nondefensive statement after rumors you dismissed for years and that are verified in the New York Times. Lets not forget that. I mean, louis c. K. s statement may be an anomaly from what weve seen from the oerdz that have been accused, but it is, i guess, the lowest of bars to say, hey, i did do this. Im sorry. Yeah, i mean, look, the fact this has now created the standard bearer is a little regrettable. Apparently its been in the somebody called the Whisper Network for years and everybody knew about it. And because of that, you know, thats the reason maybe hes coming forward now. You know, its amazing. His standup was art imitating reality. And i guess people knew it but nobody said anything until now. He has now admitted liability. He cant avoid it. Its his own words and the statement, so i guess this is his grand may y mea kulpa but io little too late. In hollywood these men may have been coverups for years, but when these allegations come out, the men have been quickly reprimanded, there have been consequences they have been cut from productions, theyve been dropped by their agents and in politics, just today what we have with roy moore is the alabama gop party rallying behind him and saying, you know, either if its true, its serious, but im still going to stand by him or its okay because thats what joseph and mary did or even if it is true, i dont care, im going to vote for the democrat. Whats the difference between hollywood and politics here . Well, critically when people abuse power to this extent they need to pay a price. And the systems need to change. And i think that youre going to see some systematic change in hollywood in shift to women directing, i think youll see a change in the nature of the culture, which is we now are hearing what these behaviors are that are really inappropriate. And i think we need to ask the same question of politics. And politics is probably more invulnerable to these kind of systematic changes. That people are idealogically committed, we dont have forms of accountability to the extent were seeing now. So, i think this is a almost a battle cry to figure out ways to hold people in power accountable. Lets just play devils advocate for a moment. At what point is there a line between people who misread signals, people who are creeps and people who have done something criminal. That is the gift of the law when it comes to criminal law, its pretty much black and white. It does turn on facts. But the age of consent being 16, Leigh Corfman being 14, as far as i can count, thats a twoyear difference between the age of consent. As far as im concerned, thats a crime. She could not give consent. Frankly, is Leigh Corfman going to be the writein candidate, who knows. But monday fundamentally the law prois you with what is right and what is wrong. If you have a good legal compass, if in hollywood or politics everyone is innocent until Proven Guilty . Of course, everyone is presumed innocent until Proven Guilty. Have you to look at the facts and the evidence. Whats compelling is the circumstantial evidence. None of these akooes kusers, none of these 30 people in the article came forward until asked to come forward. Until they were prodded to come forward. That is compelling. If they were waving a banner from day one years ago, maybe you could have it, you know, say, oh, you know what, maybe there was something, you know, in terms of them wanting something. But the fact they were loathed to come forward after all this time and only doing so now in and of itself i think lends credibility to the accusers. Thank you, guys, very much. We appreciate your time. And its been a year since donald trump shocked his opponents by winning the white house. So, how are democrats feeling about their chances in 2020 . People outside the Republican Party to come in and support his message. I think the next democratic candidate will have to do the same thing. This job that they created to do Online Grocery and to have that oneonone experience with the customers, hes meant for it. Im joey gabe, personal shopper for walmart and i love to see a smile on my customers face. Accused of obstructing justice to theat the fbinuclear war, and of violating the constitution by taking money from foreign governments and threatening to shut down news organizations that report the truth. If that isnt a case for impeaching and removing a dangerous president , then what has our government become . Im tom steyer, and like you, im a citizen who knows its up to us to do something. Its why im funding this effort to raise our voices together and demand that elected officials take a stand on impeachment. A Republican Congress once impeached a president for far less. Yet today people in congress and his own administration know that this president is a clear and present danger whos mentally unstable and armed with nuclear weapons. And they do nothing. Join us and tell your member of congress that they have a moral responsibility to stop doing whats political and start doing whats right. Our country depends on it. Ththe next energyngs toto power our dreams,re will be american energy. Afi sure had a lot on my mind. My 30year marriage. My 3month old business. Plus. What if this happened again . I was given warfarin in the hospital, but wondered, was this the best treatment for me . So i made a point to talk to my doctor. He told me about eliquis. Eliquis treats dvt and pe blood clots and reduces the risk of them happening again. Not only does eliquis treat dvt and pe blood clots. Eliquis also had significantly less major bleeding than the standard treatment. Eliquis had both. And that turned around my thinking. Dont stop eliquis unless your doctor tells you to. Eliquis can cause serious and in rare cases fatal bleeding. Dont take eliquis if you have an artificial heart valve or abnormal bleeding. If you had a spinal injection while on eliquis call your doctor right away if you have tingling, numbness, or muscle weakness. While taking eliquis, you may bruise more easily. And it may take longer than usual for bleeding to stop. Seek immediate medical care for sudden signs of bleeding, like unusual bruising. Eliquis may increase your bleeding risk if you take certain medicines. Tell your doctor about all planned medical or dental procedures. Eliquis treats dvt and pe blood clots. Plus had less major bleeding. Both made eliquis right for me. Ask your doctor if switching to eliquis is right for you. One year after President Trumps election win, washington is more divided than ever. Nbc sat down with three democrats who say they were devastated by the 2016 laelkz loss but they are excited to recapture the energy of the country. In the shadow of Hillary Clintons former Campaign Headquarters in brooklyn, the coffee was hot and so was the conversation with some democrats we brought together to talk politics. A year ago this week plaintiffs an election, and it turned some people upside down. It made some other people very happy. I want to know what it did for you . Well, the news was devastating to hear that trump had been elected. I didnt really think it was possible that he would get elected. I felt pretty confident that Hillary Clinton was going to win the election. I know there had been some bumps. We were a little bit nervous but i though
