Missouri on the only remaining Abortion Provider left the entire state, Missouri Department of health and Senior Services has now denied the license application of that very clinic of planned parenthood in st. Louis. It does remain opened for now thanks to a temporary injunction. The faith of the clinics future is in the hands of the judge whether or not to extend that injunction. If the clinic is shut down, missouri will become the first state operating without an Abortion Facility since 1973 when the Supreme Court ruled on roe v. Wade. Joining us now from st. Louis is rahema ellis. This planned parenthood clinic does a lot more than provide abortions. If the clinic loses its license, will it be losing its licenses for all services or just Abortion Services . It would be just for Abortion Services. Planned parenthood will be able to provide clinical and medical services for women who are in need and come into their offices. They want to be able to continue services. This ruling and decision by the Health Department of the state of missouri is in application applies only to the services they provide around abortions, stephanie. What do we know of the timing of this. There is an injunction and a judges decision thats going to come. Talk to us about how this works. Well, what happens is, there is an injunction in place, the judges preliminary injunctions issued more than a week ago. He cited today of a deadline for the department of health in missouri, will you or wont you renew this license . This is a day everybody is expecting. This is a day that everybody was expecting the state of missouri to come in and say we are not going to issue that license which technically expires on may 31st. The judge says my preliminary injunction stands. It is still in place. So planned parenthood and abortions can be operated here in the state of missouri. He says i am going to rule further on my in function as soon as possible but thats not going to happen today. So we are looking at sometimes next week, the judge may make a decision about whats going to happen here as far as his injunction is concerned. Rahema, thank you for joining us in st. Louis. President trump confirming the United States was moments away striking iran. President trump ordered a military strike against iran then called off the operation and shifas ships and aircrafts were already in position. We were cocked and loaded to retaliate last night when i asked how many people will die, 150 people, sir with the answer from the general, just ten minutes from the strike. I stopped it. Growing disputes over claims of where the drone was when it was shot down. The department of defense Officials Say the drone was on that spot to the left of International Waters in the strait of hormuz. Tlg a there is not a lot of difference in those two spots. One is International Space and iranian space. Our friend and colleague charles todd sat down with the president with an exclusive interview and discuss his order to cancel the retaliation. Did you green light something . What was the order you gave . Nothing is green lighted until the very end because things changed. You never gave a final order. We had something ready to go subject to my approval. They came in about half an hour before. We were about ready to go. Planes in the air . We were about ready to go. No. They would have been pretty soon. And things would have happened to a point where you would not turn back or could not turn back. So, they came and they said sir, we are ready to go, we would like your decision. I would like to know something before you go. How many people would be killed . How many people will be killed . Sir, i would like to get back to you on that. Great people, these generals. They came back and said sir, approximately 150. I thought about it for a second, they shot down an unmanned drone, plane, whatever you want to call it and here we are sitting with 150 dead people that would have taken place probably within half an hour after i said go ahead, i didnt like it. I didnt think it was proportionate. Joining us now the moderator of meet the press. Things changed. The 150 people. The president could have known that days or weeks or months or hours. Before the strike. Did he give any sort of explanation why or when at that moment when things were already in motion . He asked the question and got that answer and changed course. I think stephanie more of the you know him pretty well, too. You no e hknow how he works. He wants everything in front of him. He wanted john bolton to push the envelope. He likes all of that. He likes this idea that he makes the final call. And that sense, this is actually very much how he always operates whether it is a decision about painting air force one or a decision about this. He likes to get all of these options in front of him and be the decider on these things. In some way, i know there is been he should have known about the casualty counts earlier. I dont think he ever planned on giving the green light. He didnt say that but he seems to be inching away the entire time. You can see it yesterday. So, i cant help but wonder if some of this was about okay, bolton and pompeo, show me what you got. Is there any impact . We know to your point this is how he rolls professionally. He knows how to produce a tv show and create drama. But, in doing Something Like this when lives are at stake, is there any impact whether to our military or his colleagues a t the white house or our allies overseas. Stoo it it is the same impact as barack obama had when he set the red line and made that decision. I was at the white house the day dennis mcdonough, he pulled back the situation and ready to go. Here i am of a similar situation. I do think that this does not help and in some ways the president already has a reputation for sort of not telegraphing it very well and seemingly doing one thing and another. It is not like thats a new issue when it comes to alle alleys. Hes making it clear that he does not want to kill anybody and hes sending a message to iran that we want to talk. What you said right there was the president s worst nightmare. You said it was reminisce of barack obama. Earlier today Ashley Parker says you need to define President Trump policy. What hes doing in your situation is obamalike, is that stunning . I have had a followup question thats reflective of that statement, you will have to wait on sunday. You are absolutely right. I did ask him, what would candidate trump would say about President Trump going there or not going there. We all know what candidate trump would say about that. He would not fully accept the prem leon premise when i said it. It is a classic case of he suddenly sitting in that chair. I suspect the white house is calling your office right now and they want to discuss exactly what you guys covered. Fair enough. Nice to see you. Thank you, stephanie, thank you ali. Chuck todds interview with President Trump, well air it on sunday. Nbcs hans nichols and ali arouzi. This is a remarkable twelve hours for you. What has happened in iran since news broke 13 hours ago that the United States was on the verge of launching air strikes against iran . Ali, there is a flurry of activities here and a lot of comments coming out from many, many different branches of power in iran. Irans ambassador to the u. N. Has been defending the shooting down of the drone and arguing that iran wont be forced back to the negotiating table by the white house. He made an analogy of saying if somebody puts a knife to your neck and any reasonable person cant negotiate while you are being threatened of accusing america, unleashing Economic Warfare against iran. But, you know, a lot of other things have happened. There was a report that came out last night from reuters saying that a message is being sent to iranians. Warnings of an imminent attack and authorities i spoke to this morning says thats entirely false that no messages were sent to iran about some imminent attack and they have been trying to portray strong images here since yesterday and throughout the day, they retoauting a shooting down of the drone as a major victory and warning it is a clear message to the u. S. That iran is tough not to crack. Officials here have been comparing it to sadam hue sassa. It comes down to hans nichols, too. The New York Times broke this story around 11 00 p. M. Eastern time noted that when asked about the pentagon and the white house, nobody there said hold the publication of the story. Why is it significant . Sometimes that does happen. The pentagon or the white house will say please dont report on this, american lives are at risk. The first indication was there were no american lives at risk. They did not invoke of what we call the National Security. It was so widespread and nothing could have been done to keep it. Listen to chucks interview and analysis of his interview, it is clear that the president wants this is message out. They wanted this to be part of the whole campaign because the president likes the image and it is becoming more clear in that tweet and the interview with chuck that hes a regulator on some elements inside of h is administration, he may think that could give him into a better decision of cutting a deal and sitting down with the iranian leadership. He does not want us to be seen as a hawk. He wants us to be seen as the dove in his administration. Ali. The president in his tweet series this morning did say they imposed even more sanctions last night. Is there any inclination that the iranians are going to pull back on this escalation because we know how much sanctions hurt them. There is no information right now, stephanie. Irans mantra, moderate to hard liners here that theyre not going to negotiate with the United States while the status quo is like this. If we are on the heavy sanctions and threatened by american military, there is no point in coming around to the negotiation table to america and they need to show much stronger sides of themselves which is what they have been doing. They are saying shooting down that drone yesterday was no mistake and no miscalculation as the president alluded to yesterday. Theyre saying that was calculated and it was done in order to send a message to the United States the u. S. Military aircraft that was carrying 20 or 30 passengers was also in their cross hairs but they decided not to hit it and hit a drone instead to send a warning signal to america not to encroach on iranian. This came as a big surprise. We have found out the u. S. And iran, there was huge animosity between the two of them that there were back channel told between america and teheran. Who knows if thats going on. Ali arouzi for us in teheran and hans nichols for us. Joining us to discuss that possibility, our lieutenant colonel. Lieutenant colonel, good to see you, sir. We heard chuck todd talking about the fact that iran should not be mistaken for iraq. What are the things that we need to worry about strategically as this escalates . Iran is a major factor throughout the middle east and it has the ability to influence inside iraq. He has a major influence in the world and syria. Iran has the ability to escalate this thing in a number of Different Directions and cause problems throughout the middle east. It is a corner cap at this point. It is dangerous and it is doing some unpredictable things. It is attacking shipping in the streets of hormuz and sitting down what the pentagon was saying international aerospace. It is clear that iran is both trying to escalate this and has the ability to do so in a number of different places. The president s last minute pull back, he seems to feel pretty good about it, almost as though he planted that way. Help us understand the impact to the men and women in the military who have to do that reverse course in such a late moment. You got to conflict in style and character at least between a Reality Tv Show host and men and women whose lives are on the line of these operations. It did appear with the president that perhaps he never in debited to go forward. We made preparations not to come back home. This is not the normal way of doing business when the National Security councils make this kind of decision when the president says go, lives are on the line and it is not usually used as a negotiation tactic that appears the president is doing in this case. I want to go back to that for a second, the map, i would like you to help us understand the term asymmetric air force. There are questions whether we can hit all of the nuclear targets there some where between 70 and 120 and some of them are deep and underground. You talked about the region, the influences in the region. Iran has influences in iraq and syria and lebanon and yemen and some degree in afghanistan. There is a way that iran can fight this war that is not the same as america can fight this war. Thats exactly right. Ali. When i was fighting in iraq, more than a decade ago now, we were most concerned of iranian explosive devices that is could cut through a tank. Iran has the ability to do real damage to americas interest and American Partners and forces spread throughout the middle east, you dont expect the Iranian Forces to line their tanks up to take on the american air force, the American Navy in the air and conventional battle. Theyre going to fight insurgence and terrorists and east symmetrically and do as much damage as they can all in an attempt to get the United States back to the negotiating table and get sanctions lifted which are clearly doing real damage inside iran. Joe biden in Columbia South carolina meeting with africanamerican leaders after fallout over remarks he made about working with segregationists back in his career. Senator cory booker told nbc news, they two discussed and clearing things up on the phone. I had an opportunity to explain to him further how why africanamerican men who have been called away before. Or why racist senator like those would look at him and call him son as seeing themselves in him and seeing in a black man and calling him boy because they dont see themselves because they see someone they are dehumanizing or degrading. Having conversations like that, thats the kind of dialogue thats a constructive thing. Joining us now from Columbia South carolina, garret haake. What are people on the ground telling us . Reporter the Biden Campaign would like to turn the page on this. You saw they had a number of surrogates out yesterday and talking about this on tv, trying to put on his comments in his fundraiser in that context and explaining what he meant. He got some air cover from members of congress including speaker pelosi. Joe biden is an authentic guy. They know where his heart is. In my conversation with voters in South Carolina. I heard a lot of the same. The two big aways from the voters i have been speaking with in africanamericans here. They do give joe biden the benefit of the doubt. We dont think hes a racist person, we think it is a mistake on his part. We understand the point he was trying to make. The other thing that i heard from some of these voters, they would like to hear an apology of some kobe bryant. T kind. The idea that you push ahead and never apologize does not sit well with democratic voters. They would like to see bidens acknowledge, and like to hear people talk about race in 2019 and then move on. Talk to us about the event that you are at down there, it is not just biden whose there and nearly all the democratic contenders are attending. Reporter yes, just about anybody. This is jim clyde burn in the whip and hes been doing this for 20 years. We got the party raising money and candidates will speak there and theyll go to fish fry and eat fish and some of them may try to dance and some may do it well and some may not. There is additional events related to the Democratic Convention and a planned parenthood event in town. A big opportunity for all these candidates to introduce themselves to South Carolina voters. Many reminding me today they see this as so early and a lot of these folks are not familiar with the names of the candidates they are talking to. Big stage for all of them. Mayor pete was supposed to be there be hes not going to be there, correct . Reporter hell be missing some of the events to go back to attend a business in south bend where there was a lot of Police Involved shooting thats taking his time and attention. We are expecting him back in to South Carolina. Hell miss a portion of these events to take care of businesses. Garret, thank you, as always. Glutenfree and the bread. You can go and dance, ali.
