Jack jones was executed around 7 20 yesterday evening followed by Marcel Williams a few hours later. Williams fate was touch and go through out the night. His lawyer claiming that the eexecution of jones earlier in the evening was inhumane, cruel and caused the man unusual amount of pain. And says both jones and williams were morbidly obese. He said the lethal drugs might also be ineffective. The state said the claims were false and ultimately went ahead with the execution. Now, arkansas hadnt had an execution for nearly 12 years. Then the government realized that one of the drugs they use for lethal injections was set to expire april 30th. The governor scheduled four double executions in 11 days. Four put on hold. One inmate was killed last week. The last man set to be executed thursday. Diane, kendis, i have a feeling we will be talking abut this throughout the week. One of the issues the drugs they use in the execution are hard to come by. Why are they in short supply . Diane, exactly. More and more manufacturers are no longer allowing their drugs to 6 be used in the executions. Many say theyre afraid of pr backlash. In the 31 states where executions are legal. Delays are often common due to drug shortages. This kind of rush to push executions like we are seeing in arkansas is fairly rare. If all eight executions had happened it would have been the most in such a short time period since the u. S. Supreme court reinstated the Death Penalty in 1976. Now, arkansas keeps the identity of drug suppliers a secret. Hoping that can persuade Drug Companies to work with them. They admit with the secrecy, the state says it still has difficulty getting those lethal drugs. Well see how all this plays out as the day goes on.
