Its unclear what congress can accomplish today, but there will be meetings in the house to see if perhaps there could be a partial funding for just some different issues. One of those would be d. C. Government. Another issue regarding veterans. But its still unclear how thats going to go. Last night didnt go well between john boehner and the president. He says he feels the president is not willing to compromise when it comes to his Affordable Care act. The new Health Care Law that went into effect. Democrats say they are standing firm. We have divided government. Democrats control the white house and senate. Republicans control the house. We sent four different proposals to our colleagues. They rejected all of them. I can only conclude that they wanted to shut down government. I think that that has a purpose for them. We know what that is. They want to overturn the Affordable Care act. Its not going to happen. And frankly, thats not what our constitution had in mind. If you dont like something, you threaten to shut down government. Its expected to be another quiet day here at the National Mall as far as congestion because those workers are still furloughed. 800,000 workers are still furloughed. You will see a big presence as some workers say they will be out here. They want to get the message across that they want to get back to work so they want a solution. Not clear if that will come today. Richard jordan, news 4. It will be a busy week for the agencies that deal with unemployment placlaims. The Department Services says you should do initial claims online because of increased demand. The department of labor says its already getting higher than usual number of claims from federal workers. In virginia youll get a special paper application to file your claim. D. C. s only Public University could take a financial hit from the Government Shutdown. The university of the District Of Columbia gets some federal funding. The board of trustees held an emergency meeting last night. The school feared a lack of funding would keep students from finishing out the semester. They are forcing a change of plans at one of the most famous theaters. They are taking the show on the road. The Laramie Project will be performed at the First Congressional United Church of christ which is about a block away. The performance will be free. We already saw the impact the shutdown is having on one business. We went to pentagon city. Restaurants there count on federal workers and Government Contractors to stay in business. We havent seen the business had week. That shop opener says hes taken more delivery orders from people working from home. Nongovernment workers could soon have to face furloughs because of the shutdown. United Technologies Corporation says it may have to furlough more than 5,000 people if the government is still shutdown in a month. Some of those employees may not have that long. More than 2,000 could be furloughed as early as this monday in a division that makes black hawk helicopters. The kboft cant approve spending on military projects. Wall street is starting to get nervous. Stocks have not taken a huge hit from the shutdown, but experts fear if lawmakers cant agree on what to do about the debt limit, that will not be the case.
