We have divided government. Democrats control the white house and senate. Republicans control the house. We sent four different proposals to our colleagues. They rejected all of them. I can only conclude that they wanted to shut down government. I think that that has a purpose for them. We know what that is. They want to overturn the Affordable Care act. Its not going to happen. And frankly, thats not what our constitution had in mind. If you dont like something, you threaten to shut down government. Its expected to be another quiet day here at the National Mall as far as congestion because those workers are still furloughed. 800,000 workers are still furloughed. You will see a big presence as some workers say they will be out here. They want to get the message across that they want to get back to work so they want a solution. The Department Services says you should do initial claims online because of increased demand. The department of labor says its already getting higher than usual number of claims from federal workers. The university of the District Of Columbia gets some federal funding. The board of trustees held an emergency meeting last night. The school feared a lack of funding would keep students from finishing out the semester. They are forcing a change of plans at one of the most famous theaters. They are taking the show on the road. United Technologies Corporation says it may have to furlough more than 5,000 people if the government is still shutdown in a month. Some of those employees may not have that long. More than 2,000 could be furloughed as early as this monday in a division that makes black hawk helicopters. The kboft cant approve spending on military projects. Wall street is starting to get nervous. Stocks have not taken a huge hit from the shutdown, but experts fear if lawmakers cant agree on what to do about the debt limit, that will not be the case.
