Of a possible ebola case here in our region. A patient at Howard University hospital was tested for the virus. Were still working right now to try to figure out those results. News 4s derrick ward meanwhile joins us live from the hospital. Derrick, what can we expect and learn later today . Well, we may learn more about the condition of the patient. Probably around noon as we hear from a spokesperson for the hospital. But you can say that the fears and concerns about ebola in our area as they stand right now have been cut by 50 . That is without knowing exactly the fate of the patient here at Howard University hospital. Now it was yesterday when we learned that a patient was admitted here in stable condition, exhibiting symptoms of the ebola virus. And that patient had indeed traveled to the country of nigeria and africa. So that patient has been admitted here. Tests are being run. The person is isolated and the cdc as well as the local Health Department were notified about this patient. Tests are being run as we said. Of course there was a patient yesterday that we were told had possibility of ebola at shady grove adventis hospital. That patient had malaria. It is good news when the alternative is ebola. Malaria is treatable and a lot less communicable than the ebola virus. It can only be transmitted through infected mosquitos. Well learn more about the fate of this patient. We wanted to protect our guys, anything going in the area. We didnt really want to, you know, be that close to the car without it being protected. Reporter then they went into the apartment and the family of Thomas Eric Duncan kold home. The first patient in the United States to be diagnosed with ebola. My guys went in. They reported back to me and said that, you know, its not as bad as someone might think. And then they were able to move through it pretty quick. In what is being called phase one, soiled linens, towels and clothing were put in containers. And mattresses were put in three bags and done in an abundance of caution. Do you think this is the most dangerous project youve ever had . Maybe personally. The crews worked in the apartment which was covered by a tarp. That was our call. Duncans family watched and then around 6 00 in the evening left the apartment in a van with local leaders. They just watched the guys and, you know, let us do our work. Were told this job, the cleanup will cost the state of texas 65,000. Its not over yet. The job will take days. We have families just like everyone else. We want to go home to them and determined to do it the right way. So were in good hands. And nbc news crew is now headed back to the u. S. From liberia after a photojournalist tested positive for ebola. He was working with chief medical editor dr. Nancy snyderman. He worked in west africa for the last three years. The photographer started showing symptoms wednesday and quarantined himself immediately. Nbc news says as a precaution, snyderman and three other employees are now being monitored for symptoms for 21 days. Now ebola symptoms typically show in infected patients between 8 and 10 days after exposure. The disease spreads through direct contact with blood or other bodily fluids of an infected person. This morning, an 8yearold boy is in the hospital following a shooting that hurt three people just outside Anacostia Park in the district. We brought you this breaking news last night. We were there. We watched as medics loaded one of the victims into the ambulance. The shooting happened in the parking lot of the apartment complex. Youll find that on hay street that is just off an costa freeway northeast. You can see right here where police found a gun. Were told though that boy was not the target of the shooting. He was taken to the hospital and he is in serious condition. No word on the condition of the other victims. D. C. Police also busy working for a person who stabbed and killed a man in columbia heights. This happened yesterday afternoon on 14th street near monroe in northwest. 35yearold Kenneth Young jr. Died at the hospital and police are now offering a 25,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest and conviction in this case. Traffic alert to pass along for you this morning. Right now, there are no delays on 95 in Northern Virginia. But that could change this afternoon. So you may want to adjust your travel plans. The terrorist group isis threatening to kill another american hostage who is a former u. S. Soldier. The threat comes in the same video that appeared to show the beheading of a british aid worker. Richard engel reports. Reporter this is the fourth execution of western hostages by isis in syria in just the last several months. In this case, it was a british aide worker, allen henning. He is shown in the orange suit very similar to other hostages killed by isis. Henning was a taxi driver who was kidnapped by isis when he was driving an ambulance into syria. The group also threatened to execute an american hostage next. A former american soldier who went to syria to help provide medical assistance to the syrian people. In these videos, isis is clearly trying to score propaganda points but also trying to provoke a reaction from the u. S. It seems to want to draw the u. S. Deeper into this conflict which isis firmly believes will be a quagmire for the United States and any other country that gets more involved. Right now isis is closing in on the city of kobani. It sits right on the turkish border. There are plenty of other towns and cities inside syria that isis could attack. But it wants to attack kobani right under the nose of turkish soldiers. They can actually see this battle taking place. And now turkey is also contemplating getting more militarily involved in the fight against isis in iraq and syria. That seems to be the isis strategy, widen the war. Richard engel, nbc news, turkey. Right now there is extra security at Harvard University after a threat of a shooting on campus. University police say several students and faculty members received a racially charged email threatening this shooting and they said it would happen sometime this morning. But some students say they are not worried. Dont have too much concern. Im sure the Harvard University Police Department will manage it very effectively. The university sent an email to the Community Warning them of the potential threat. The School Remains open. The flight 93 National Memorial in pennsylvania will reopen today, this after a fire. The memorial marks the site where united 93 crashed on september 11th, 201. Yesterday a fire destroyed several administrative buildings. The 9 11 flag that flew over the United States capitol was housed in there. They have not been able to get in and examine it. The memorial itself will be open today while investigators look into what started the fire. Today Laurel Police will stick it out in cooler temperature for a good cause. Officer will stay on the roof of a Dunkin Donuts on route 1 for 30 hours to raise money for special olympics. This is the sixth year the department has done this.
