Newton, IL, USA / WIKK 103.5 FM The Eagle | Classic Rock Jan 15, 2021 9:10 AM (SPRINGFIELD) Congratulations to two regional Farm Bureau members who represented our downstate area very well in recent competition during this past week’s 2021 American Farm Bureau Federation Convention. Lawrence County native Alex Mahrenholz finished among the top in the Young Farmers and Ranchers Discussion Meet, making it to the Sweet 16 Round. The nationwide competitors discussed topics including data sharing, climate change, and international trade. Mahrenholz recently started a new job as a Purdue University extension educator in Pike County, Indiana. Meanwhile, Clay County native Joe Goodman was a part of the Young Farmers and Ranchers Excellence in Ag Competition with a virtual presentation about his personal and professional background on agriculture, leadership ability, and participation in Farm Bureau and other organizations. While finishing among the top 20 in the competition, the Xenia area farmer, who grows corn and soybeans and raises beef cattle with his wife, also serves on the Clay County Board and volunteers as a 4-H mentor and works with the Ag in the Classroom program.
