How do you keep a successful nonprofit agency alive during a pandemic, especially when government funding has been completely shut off? David Copperfield may be a magician, but Sharon Pinkenson, the Executive Director of the Greater Philadelphia Film Office (GPFO), has a lot more magic!
You all recognize Pinkenson, the gal with the amazing head of blonde curls. I always took her photo at any event I was covering, pre-pandemic days. She was always a stand-out at the Marian Anderson Award evening, or the Philadelphia Flower Show VIP opening, the Academy Ball or the Philly Pops opening concert.
June 30 of 2020mwas the last time for her Philadelphia government funding, because of the pandemic and the cutback in Mayor Kenney’s budget. The city had given an annual grant to GPFO since 1992.
