Those darting figures spotlighted for a moment in the light of the moon, and the whistling and twittering, are the sights and sounds of the annual fall migration of birds, most of which takes place at night. For the bird watcher, this migration heralds the beginning of a new season of excitement, of frustration (because the birder cannot take in all of this great show or even know all he sees) and of deep satisfaction from getting a glimpse at one of the graceful and timeless rhythms of nature.
