In 1958, three years prior to Gagarin’s trailblazing journey in Vostok 1, a lunar dance showcase at the Conrad Hilton Hotel in Chicago set the rumour mill turning: Hilton was going to build a hotel on the moon. It still hasn’t happened, of course, but almost 70 years on from that tableau in a Chicago hotel lobby, the first space resort looks set to become reality.
