A winter storm spread snow and ice from parts of the Plains into the Midwest and Northeast, and snarled travel in a number of states.
This system has been named Winter Storm Nathaniel by The Weather Channel.

The heaviest snow, so far, has been in parts of Nebraska and Iowa where over a foot of snow has been measured. Omaha, Nebraska, reported 11.9 inches of snow on Monday, making it the snowiest day there since 1975.
Chicago O'Hare reported almost 6 inches through noon Tuesday, making it the largest daily snowfall there in almost three years.
