University of Louisiana Monroe President Ronald Berry, D.B.A., announces the appointment
of John W. Sutherlin, Ph.D., as Chief Innovation and Research Officer (CIRO).

Sutherlin, a Professor of Political Science in the College of Business and Social
Sciences, served as Director of ULM’s Office of Sponsored Programs and Research for
three years. He developed the first licensing agreement for a ULM invention that continues
to pay royalties to the university. Sutherlin also co-founded the Social Science Research
Lab at ULM. Most recently, he participated in the development of King Springs, a bottled ....

EDWARDSVILLE The life and experiences of Black influencer Conway Barbour serve as the foundation of Southern Illinois University Edwardsville’s first Sankofa Lecture and Dialogue Series presentation of 2021.
The ongoing series, featuring conversations on the history of slavery and its lasting legacies, is organized through SIUE’s Truth, Racial Healing and Transformation Campus Center, specifically its membership of the international Universities Studying Slavery consortium.

According to research published in The Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (JACI) that examined the interactions between gut bacteria, diet and atopic disease, gut bacteria is impacted not only by eczema and infant diet but also caesarean section birth.
The Enquiring About Tolerance (EAT) study examined 1,303 exclusively breastfed infants from three months of age. Stool samples were collected at baseline and additional sampling was done during month six and 12. Baseline samples that were obtained demonstrated that gut microbiota varied even before differences in diets. Researchers continued to examine each participant for eczema and food allergies up until they reached age three. ....
