Tracy Phillips takes reins at library • The Yellow Springs News

If you’ve walked into the local library over the past several months, you might have seen a new, but familiar face masked, of course sitting behind the protective plastic screen that enshrouds the reference desk.
That face belongs to Tracy Phillips, who began her position as head librarian at the local branch of the Greene County Public Library in October of 2020. She took the reins from Connie Collett, who retired from the position after 31 years of service.
A Yellow Springs native, Phillips began her tenure at the helm of the village library after having worked as the branch manager of a Dayton Metro Library for 11 years. She said that coming back to the YS library the library of her childhood was a logical next step in her career. ....

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WBRC) - National recognition for a University of Alabama professor.
University of Alabama Assistant Professor of Higher Education Dr. Krystal L. Williams was chosen by âDiverse: Issues in Higher Educationâ magazine as one of the nationâs top 15 emerging scholars under the age of 40.
The scholars were selected for making their mark on academia through teaching, research and service.
Williams, a 40-year-old native of Fort Worth, Texas, said sheâs excited that people have found the work sheâs passionate about to be influential. ....

Legendary businessman Dr. Jesse J. Lewis Sr. smoothly makes the 20-minute drive from Birmingham’s historic Smithfield neighborhood, where he lives, to the Roebuck Municipal Golf Course on a chilly late January morning, two weeks after his 96th birthday.
Once at the course which he leases from the city of Birmingham, one of his numerous business endeavors he cranks up one of the golf carts, loads his bag of clubs and drivers, and heads to a nearby hole where he puts his ball-striking skills on display. It doesn’t take long for him or the cold winter sun to warm up. Soon the man known as “Doc” is sinking putt after putt with the ease of a professional tournament champion. ....

The world was taken for a surprise Thursday, January 28 when the news broke that legendary actress Cicely Tyson had passed away at the age of 96. The pioneering Hollywood actress left a legacy of grace, beauty, and immeasurable talent after starring in television shows and films for over 60 years.
