Landing of $75M expansion of Texas-based Taysha adds to Triangle's growing gene therapy hub

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK – Dallas-based Taysha Gene Therapies announced plans today to invest $75 million in a gene therapy manufacturing facility in Durham that will employ more than 200 people.
Taysha is joining the fast-growing community of cutting-edge gene- and cell-therapy companies setting up shop in the Research Triangle, where decades of investment and workforce training have created a magnet for the discovery and manufacture of science’s game-changers in fighting some of humankind’s most fearsome maladies.

The company is developing gene therapies that use benign adeno-associated viruses (AAV) as “vectors,” or carriers, to transport genetic corrections to otherwise defective areas of the body. Discriminatory policies threaten care for transgender, gender diverse individuals

WASHINGTON The Endocrine Society and the Pediatric Endocrine Society oppose legislative efforts to block transgender and gender diverse individuals from accessing gender-affirming medical and surgical care, the two medical societies said in a joint policy perspective published in
The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism.
In the past three years, legislators in 17 states have proposed more than two dozen bills barring medical and surgical treatments for transgender and gender diverse youth and adults. Many of these bills reflect widespread misinformation about the nature of evidence-based gender-affirming medical care.

An update to the latest UTSW COVID-19 forecast shows that while hospitalizations for the virus are at an all-time high in DFW, the trajectory of new cases in Dallas and Tarrant counties could be very different.
Researchers at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas released their latest COVID-19 forecast models Tuesday and an updated version on Thursday which predicted the new daily infections in Dallas County are expected to decrease with the continued enforcement of current prevention measures.
