Funding for Adelaide Hills Council Biodiversity Team
The Adelaide Hills Council Biodiversity Team has recently been granted $12,635 for conservation works within three of it’s Heritage Agreement sites – Lenswood Centennial, Bradwood and Kersbrook Conservation Reserve.
These grants were awarded by the Nature Foundation’s Revitalising Private Conservation in SA grants aimed at supporting conservation works on Heritage Agreement sites. All three grants are matched by funds and in-kind contributions allocated by Council, Trees For Life and local Bushcare volunteer groups to protect threatened native flora and to improve habitat value at each of these sites.
Lenswood and Forest Range Community Association and Bush For Life volunteers provide valuable follow up to contracted works and site monitoring. ....

Bushfires pose a threat in many parts of Australia, but their management can also come at a cost.
In South West Western Australia, there are concerns that prescribed burning plans are having a negative environmental impact on an internationally recognised biodiversity hotspot.
Traditional Owners, scientists and members of the community have been lobbying the state government to reconsider the current prescribed burn regime.

URBANA, Ill. - Corn didn t start out as the powerhouse crop it is today. No, for most of the thousands of years it was undergoing domestication and improvement, corn grew humbly within the limits of what the environment and smallholder farmers could provide.
For its fertilizer needs, early corn made friends with nitrogen-fixing soil microbes by leaking an enticing sugary cocktail from its roots. The genetic recipe for this cocktail was handed down from parent to offspring to ensure just the right microbes came out to play. ....

Survey reveals extraordinary biodiversity of UNESCO World Heritage site Blenheim Estate's ancient woodland

Survey reveals extraordinary biodiversity of UNESCO World Heritage site Blenheim Estate’s ancient woodland
High Park is home to more than 2,800 separate species

A new survey has revealed the incredible biodiversity of Blenheim Estate’s ancient woodland.
Begun in 2016, the survey has revealed the Oxfordshire UNESCO World Heritage Site’s ancient High Park is home to more than 2,800 separate species.
Led by world-renowned botanist Aljos Farjon, who is based at Kew, the project has highlighted the sheer diversity of life the centuries-old oak woodland supports.
Mr Farjon and his team have also recorded a total of 275 ancient oaks with a girth of five metres or larger in High Park - the highest number of oaks of this size and age on any site in Europe. ....
