Wall Street s main indexes fell for the third straight session on Wednesday, as investors dumped riskier assets on fears that rising inflation could force the U.S. Federal Reserve to pare back its support soon.

Indian shares closed lower on Wednesday after two days of sharp gains as private sector banks ceded ground, while Asian peers retreated over concerns of an uptick in U.S. inflation.
The blue-chip NSE Nifty 50 index (.NSEI) closed down 0.52% at 15,030.15, while the benchmark S&P BSE Sensex (.BSESN) settled 0.58% lower at 49,902.64.
Both indexes had gained about 3% each in the first two days of the week, boosted by meaty gains in financial stocks.
ICICI Bank (ICBK.NS) and HDFC Bank (HDBK.NS) closed 1.22% and 1.25% lower, respectively. Both stocks were top boosts to the Nifty on Monday and Tuesday, and are still up about 5% for the week. ....

China s crude steel output hit an all-time high in April, despite the government s pledge to curb annual production to reduce pollution as well as increasing costs from raw materials.
With mills cranking up production fuelled by strong profits, the world s top steel producer churned out 97.85 million tonnes of the metal last month, data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) showed on Monday.
That was up 4.1% from March and well above output of 85.03 million tonnes in April 2020. ....

London s FTSE 100 slipped on Wednesday, dragged down by heavyweight commodity stocks, while a bigger-than-expected jump in inflation stoked fears that the central bank may tighten its monetary policy earlier than expected.
The blue-chip index (.FTSE) fell 1%, with miners (.FTNMX551020) declining 2.1% after metal prices slipped. Oil majors BP (BP.L) and Royal Dutch Shell (RDSa.L) slid more than 1% each.
The domestically focussed mid-cap FTSE 250 index (.FTMC) fell 0.4%.
Official figures showed British consumer price inflation more than doubled in April to 1.5%. The Bank of England hopes that the surge in inflation will be temporary as the economy recovers from last year s COVID-19 slump. ....
