OFWs withdraw from repatriation program as host countries roll out vaccines
A NUMBER of Filipino migrant workers have withdrawn from the government’s repatriation program as their host countries have started vaccinations against the coronavirus, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said on Wednesday. DFA Undersecretary Sarah Lou Y. Arriola, in a televised press briefing on Wednesday, said a number of Overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) have backpedalled on their plan to return home with the renewed confidence on economic opportunities abroad. Overseas Workers Welfare Administration’s (OWWA) Hans Leo J. Cacdac earlier said around 80,000 OFWs planned to return to the Philippines in the first half of 2021. “We noticed that many OFWs are backing out (of the repatriation program), especially in Middle East, because mass vaccination programs are now implemented in their host countries,” said Ms. Arriola. “We ....

NTC ordered to penalize ISPs enabling online child sexual abuse
MALACAÑANG HAS directed the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) to immediately impose sanctions on internet service providers (ISPs) that allow their platforms to be used for online child exploitation.
In a virtual press briefing on Tuesday, Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles said the rise of cases of online sexual abuse and exploitation of children during the pandemic has caught the attention of President Rodrigo Duterte.
Nograles noted that suspicious transaction reports related to online sexual exploitation of children during the pandemic more than doubled from 19,000 in 2019 to 47,937 in 2020.

DSWD supports National Food Policy to achieve zero hunger

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has rallied behind the institutionalization of the National Food Policy by the Inter-Agency Task Force on Zero Hunger to resolve the decades-long problem of hunger and strengthen the country’s efforts to attain long-term food security.

“The DSWD, as one of the vice chairmen, expresses its full support to the creation of this National Food Policy. The policy will reinforce and harmonize the efforts of the different member-agencies of the Task Force to create strategies and programs that will help end hunger, improve nutrition, achieve food security and promote sustainable agriculture in our country,” DSWD Secretary Rolando Bautista said in his closing remarks during the virtual launch of the National Food Policy Document.  The event coincided with the first anniversary celebration of the IATF ZH. ....
