'My rookie of the year': Vikings' Justin Jefferson gets Randy Moss' vote

A million-watt smile stretched across Jefferson's face. The player he grew up watching and trying to emulate then asked Jefferson to "send me (a pair) with your John Hancock on it."
The Vikings haven't had a rookie make an impact like Jefferson since Moss was named the NFL's Offensive Rookie of the Year in 1998. Wide receiver Percy Harvin was the last Minnesota player to earn the honor in 2009, but his numbers (60 catches, 790 yards and six touchdowns) weren't close to those of Jefferson, who was the only offensive rookie named to the Pro Bowl.

What Vikings can learn from Stefon Diggs experience and apply to Justin Jefferson

Surely each would make the deal again, and there is no "loser" in this trade. But there are lessons the Vikings can learn from the circumstances that got them to the point of trading a then-26-year-old Diggs so they don't face a similar situation in the future.
Diggs signed a five-year, $72 million extension in July 2018 when he was part of an offense that was set to feature him heavily, setting him up for his next big pay day. Diggs' deal, which averages $14.4 million per year, was considered a team-friendly contract.
When the Vikings shifted toward a run-heavy scheme once Kevin Stefanski took over as offensive coordinator in December 2018, the writing was on the wall for Diggs. Staying in Minnesota made it tougher to be paid like a true No. 1 receiver (he's the 16th-highest paid receiver based on yearly salary).

Vikings eliminated from playoff contention with loss to Saints

Not even a Christmas miracle could help the Minnesota Vikings keep their playoff hopes alive against the New Orleans Saints on Friday.
In a 52-33 loss that knocked the Vikings out of playoff contention, the defense allowed the franchise's most points since 1963.
“Really disappointed defensively,” Vikings coach Mike Zimmer said. “You’ve got to work really hard to give up 52.”
With as many injuries as Minnesota had across the board, especially on defense, it had no shot against a Saints team primed for a deep postseason run. For a fifth straight week, the Vikings fell behind by 10 points and were unable to recover.

Vikings' Justin Jefferson closes in on rookie receiving records

Four games into the season, Jefferson recorded two of his six 100-yard receiving games. Three months in as a first-year pro, Jefferson has exceeded expectations. Percy Harvin was the last Minnesota rookie wideout to perform this well; in 2009, Harvin won NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year honors after his 60-catch, 790-yard, six-touchdown season.
Fourteen games in, Jefferson has far surpassed that mark, ranking eighth in the NFL in yards (1,182) and becoming the fifth rookie receiver named to the Pro Bowl in the past 20 years.
This type of season isn't easily replicated, which furthers his case for NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year. Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert, another front-runner for the award, tied Baker Mayfield's rookie record for touchdown passes with 27, and Jefferson reached historical highs with two games still to play.
